Default Stubborn or Just Don't Care?

We all have seen ebay auctions that are listed incorrectly and we've reached out to advise and help the seller. I'm amazed by those who ignore your help, even when you provide them solid proof.

This seller is selling an Alex Rodriguez signed baseball, but it's actually a Ben Davis signed baseball. Provided him images for proof, yet he still ignores it. Tells me he knows for a fact Alex Rodriguez signed the ball. Even after sending him these signed Ben Davis auto's, he still stands behind the ball being signed by Alex Rodriguez.

What is it with sellers who ignore the facts? I just don't get it.

I am going to go with a 3rd option that the seller is a liar out to make money. I believe ARod's autograph is worth more than Ben Davis'.

Most don't care or are straight up scammers. I seen a post with a Roger Clemens ball being sold as game used. I had seen the last 3 or 4 sales of that exact ball. That included the sale to the guy now selling it. In every listing it clearly said it was NOT a game used ball. Yet the seller had it listed as game used. I even sent him 2 different links one from the time he bought it clearly stating it was not game used. Then the other link to his BS for sale thread on a forum saying it was not game used. The seller not only told me they were all wrong but then tried saying it was also a rookie signature. Scammers going to scam.

I get stuff all the time...probably once a month. I always listen! Of course, it's content related (Like the guy that informed me my photo was Lee Handley and not Gene, for exapmple)...it helps me not be a doofus, Lol. Where $ is concerned, I'd love to think it's an honest mistake. But...you DO have a point and it is certainly a consideration. The example you've cited appears pretty obvious and sad. But, hey, Ben Davis! Come and get your Ben Davis!!!

I got one yesterday and fixed the listing. I'd misidentified a Springfield rifle as a Sharp's rifle in a cabinet photo.

Assuming the seller is honest, refusing to take a correction amounts to one thing: ego. "I know, you don't". I try to be as humble as I can be when it comes to this stuff; I do not see how else to be an honest researcher and writer unless I acknowledge that what I know is far smaller than the total sum of the facts.

Total aside on this concept: I took an appellate process class in law school that was taught by a retired CA Supreme Court justice, Raymond Sullivan. Amazing class. Kicked my ass. Justice Sullivan had an astounding memory and he'd been involved in many of the opinions we were studying. One time after class, a student asked him a challenging question about a case we'd gone over. Sullivan's response was "I discussed that exact issue with Chief Justice Traynor when he assigned me to write the opinion and we decided it was incorrect." Total mic drop moment. Sometimes you do know it all.
