Default REA Results Last Night

Like many here, I was bidding on several items. I didn't see anything go cheaply. I saw some cards go, wildly, for sums I thought were crazy. Some E cards (E94 and others), commons in 4 holders, going for 1k-2k++.

Why don't my cards do that well when I auction them?

I had a few pickups and might show them later.... The market for pre-war remains very strong with an upward trend. I think there are a lot more investors than even a year or two ago.

Very healthy bidding indeed as the last day run up in prices were impressive. Had a full page of no wins as many new highs reached on individual cards

Bid on a few pre-war cards and got killed. Made what I thought were too high of bids on a few of the shoebox collections and got killed. I'll never understand the more common things that go 30 percent higher than you can get on Ebay every day of the week. Only thing I won was the lot with the 76, 77, and 79 Topps sets and felt like I overpaid for that.

Yes, high, but understandable ...............

Cross' only non-Pied./SC back is the Tolstoi.

My "mid-tier" set sits at 519/520, missing only this combo.

There are probably others in or near this situation.

A very "unique" card.

I think I'll wait for mine .........................

Fun, fun, Scott

I was bidding on the obak Ten Million thinking I could get a fair price, to my
surprise it went way over what I was willing to pay considering condition.

Seeing things I used to own and sold for fractions of the ridiculous, way-over logical prices that they fetched last night. At least the prices made no sense to me and my 40 years of doing this.

I assume you're talking about autographs. I only know the T206 player autograph market, but I actually thought there were some deals to be had -- e.g., Mathewsons for $15k or less. I was VERY happy to have snagged the Miller Huggins for under $3,000. I haven't seen a Huggins for under $4,000 in the last 5 years of looking.

I guess I might consider Joe Kelley for $40k to be frustrating, so maybe you're referring to that one. But even an Eddie Plank signed check for $20,000 isn't totally crazy based on my expectations for signed Plank sales.

Shutout as usual.

There are few bargains in the major auctions except when I consign something to any of them!

I lost out on all 4 items I was bidding on, 2 of them as the next-highest bid.

As an East Coast person with a job that starts at 630am, I cannot do these kind of auctions before a work day. I bid my highest I was willing to go, but I would have thrown a bit more at one or the other (maybe both) that I lost out on if I was actually awake at the time extended bidding was kicking into the final rounds.

When I go to bed I don't know if I'm in line to win all 4 or part of what I'm bidding on. I can't bid the absolute highest on everything assuming I won't win 2 or 3 of them...resource allocation (money) and all that...

It is what it is, but I'm not trying to stay up most of the night in order to maybe overspend on something. This happens too often, but I figure the people running things set it up like this for a reason.

Reading through the thread made me want to show the price for 3 poor Topps cards that sold at Julien's on the 12th. The selling price was $500, the total price with commission was $640. I wouldn't pay $25 for all 3 of them. Maybe it's just me, but is that price crazy or what? They belonged to Larry King - maybe that's the reason.

I won the 1914 Cracker Jack Walter Johnson--went to bed at 1030 so lost a few more Cracker Jacks--I would have hit them 1 more time, but had to get some sleep--Bid on other cards, but lost on them.

With about 20 active bids, I crashed about midnight. This morning discovered had won 1 item, the 1/1 McGraw - glove Japanese Tour postcard. Price wasn't a crippler and fits in well with my McGraw glove collection. My other bids were crushed.

I'm not sure people outside of the rabid E94 circles realized this was the most significant E94 sale since the John Esch Heritage auction in 2021.

It took the member that originally put this set together many, many years to compile the group. As far as I know the highest graded E94 set unless there is one buried in an old-time collection, which there may be.

I was fortunate enough to be able to upgrade 4 of my cards but this is the kind of auction that makes you want to sell a kidney or two.

Congratulations to the auction winners and consignors.

Picked up my first Jackie auto from the Marketplace while browsing the auction over the weekend. Interesting piece with a story and lots of personal connections to it.

Congrats! I ended up getting the authentic Wagner 1915 Cracker Jack(the cheaper one LOL). Always feel like the bidding gets crazy in extended(Its just me right??) Supply and demand for rare items always drives up prices. I have to pick my spots and pay up for rarities if I really want them. Seems like the nature of the game these days, but has been like this for a while now.

I was able to grab a couple of Hornsby's - The m101-6 and the Block Brothers postcard. Went higher then I wanted to on both, but told myself I wasn't going to miss out on another m101-6 and the PC was only the second one I've seen after Leon's here so couldn't stop hitting the bid button.

Question for the signed checks experts. Was the lot of (5) McCovey checks about right? I know nothing about the signed check market and never owned one but almost placed a bid on them just because I thought they were cool. Seemed if not cheap then fairly priced to the untrained eye.

I did a round of my reupped max bids at 12:05, honestly thought everything would hold up. Went to bed trying to decide what all to sell to cover a huge bill for some really cool cards and significant upgrades, but after my morning caffeine, I realized that I had won 0 of the 5 cards I thought I surely won.

On the bright side, I pulled together a pretty decent stack of things to sell before I went to bed to start covering my tab. I guess I’ll start selling that stuff, since I already told myself they had to go to raise funds!

Congratulations to both the sellers and buyers, great stuff to be had and strong prices that hopefully bring some free cash flow back to the BST!

Enjoy,
Bob

I thought the Speaker cabinet was a very very special item but it more than doubled what I thought the top end it would reach. Pretty awesome results across the board for sellers

I won neither the nice Foxx RPPC auto nor the Horner Waddell cabinet. The Foxx auto was incorrectly described which stopped me a bit early. My wallet is lacking sufficient funds for the Waddell, but oh so gorgeous. Congrats to the lucky new owner!

On the flip side, my Schmidt sticker sold for much higher than expectations!

Was happy to win this Chance Cracker Jack. Tough one to acquire as it's always getting bid up by collectors outside the CJ set.

Default REA / E94s

incredible batch of E94s .. seems like they rarely sell now but to see so many was interesting ... I saw those at the national and registration was very nice ... congrats to all who got them... Lost out on all 3 of my bids .. and thought I bid high .

If anybody won the E126 lot and is open to breaking up the group, I'm interested in some of them.

I loved REA's auction. I won 18/20 of the Topping PCs, including my third Crawford. I now have the entire set. Also the E94 Jennings and two Cap Anson cabinets.

I've always said, you can never have too many Topping Postcard Sam Crawfords.
