Beware fake sellers

Recently I have made 2 different posts for signed items wanted. I've gotten PMs like this one I got today

The other 2 said there aunt had one. This one just joined and this was his first post. Beware

Also, all anyone has to do is PM me the scammer's id and I will immediately ban them, as has been done for several years now. It's fine to post also, but let's make sure we get rid of them. The email you posted didn't come up as a registered member. Do they have a user id? Thanks

Can someone explain why every scammer feels compelled to say that the card belongs to an old relative or friend who is incapable of navigating the intricacies of the Interwebs?

Is acting as an intermediary actually supposed to make the transaction seem more legit? Or does having an old person (who presumably knows nothing about cards) create the impression that the target is somehow getting a steal?

I know the scam works more often than it should; I just don't understand the psychology behind it.

They are trying to catch people off guard and it works every great once in a while, which makes them keep doing it. I know of several sad instances on the forum. I wish all the bad Karma on those scammers....

I mean, I always refer to my relatives as "my old cousin"...seems very natural.
