Just thinking out loud. If the cards were equally desirable, then wouldn't the REA card sell for more based on the close date being earlier (one more bidder, the high bidder) removed from the Mile High bidders.
I guess it's really up to whether or not the main bidders have an issue with the presence of the stain on the REA card. I can only say this - it ain't gonna be me with the high bid for either.

If that's how it worked, wouldn't one predict that every card would sell for less than what it sold for the last time?

That's a toughie! I think REA mainly because of exposure. I could be wrong, and it totally could just be me, but I check REA every now and then, whereas MHA isn't really on my radar much. I didn't even know they were selling one until someone mentioned it on FB the other day.

For me, i like the REA. Like the staining, but may be too much of it on the corner.
But, the MH one does have the 2 corner creases and some white streak at the bottom, not sure what it is. I used to own one, a Auth one due to a cut at the top border and was re-glued. It presented very nice with no stains. Bought it from PWCC raw and had it slabbed myself. I have seen it sell later, and had thought about re-buying it at the time. But i dont regret it..as i love my project i am working on (in my sig.) I am also looking to see where the results end as well.

Which SGC2 1915 CJ Joe Jackson gets more?
I say neither, since Shoeless Joe is dead, and being dead, he ain't getting any anymore. And I pose this to Mr. Jackson himself - If I am incorrect about you being dead and not getting any anymore, say it ain't so, Joe! Brian |

And it's a tossup between the two for me, as each has something better than the other...I say they get the exact same amount.

Obviously they are both similar and they both have same Grade and by same grading company(so the Argument of PSA vs SGC is out).
Now it is more a preference of the eye appeal to the bidder. I would be proud to have either in my collection. But I would choose Mile High

We are at 3 days out on the Mile High auction Joe Jackson CJ card closing. What is the members thinking on its final sales number? I like the example a lot myself. Strong color it seems.

Ok Travis, looks like we can go double or nothing on a bet for a different auction. If I can win 16 more consecutive double or nothing bets off of this first bet, then I should be able to own a 1915 CJ of Jackson in a "2" grade (and have a bit left to get a T206 green Cobb). I've got my fingers crossed.
Dang, that was pretty darn close. My theory held true and MH was just a bit less... ![]() I guess it stands to reason that there are a lot of collectors out there that like the CJ stains. I for one don't, but that never stopped me from buying one with a stain.

I just had this happen with a T205 Mathewson that I won in last night's Mile High auction for what I thought was a great price. It has truly amazing colors - gold-est borders I've ever seen on a gold border. But I'm not sure the scan did it justice, which might have kept the price down. I saw it in person at the Shriner's Show last month, and knew I wanted it then.

To me it seems as though Mile High’s specimen has a centering advantage and its staining, while present, doesn’t appear to bleed through quite as noticeably. Others may see something I don’t, but I’d certainly pay more for it.

I won the Mike High version, my rational was two-fold, I had a decent consignment with REA, which was tied to a reallocation/continued collecting focus plan. I wanted to see my end result and consult with a few experts on this site (thanks Jeff). I only made one bid while watching since day one, but knew the sale of the REA compared to this card would have mathematically bumped the incremental bid on top or over with the next bid. I was not totally surprised no one else bid give recent comps and probably not bid again (but knows)
I now have concluded my goal of finding an item from each of the 8, knowing this card was the centerpiece for me. The others are type 1 photos and a game 1 program. Excited to see the card in person. Of course, I biased, but I like the centering this too, but would have been happy with either but that did not fit the plan.

I was in the Heritage App last night and was looking around at various sales of Cracker Jack Jackson within the 2 range and saw a PSA 2 sold in May for $63k, but what was more interesting I saw a pending offer on a SGC 2.5 (from 1/6) at $63k. Does Heritage note offers while owners are thinking or is it really Pending and the payment brokering etc is happening?

I have always wondered what would happen to his card values if the shoeless one by some kind of miracle, which would send Judge Landis spinning in his grave (good place for him), got into the Hall of Fame.
I can see 2 scenarios playing out; first, many may gravitate even more intensely for Joe's cards now that justice (I guess) has been done and he has deservedly secured an enshrinement. Those in the hunt are now willing to pay more for his scant cards, or many may lose some interest now that the legend and mystique about Joe is gone, his role or not in the '19 WS fix really no longer matters and lose some interest in trying to secure any of his cards. These are the things I ponder while looking at the ceiling at 3 a.m. |

Id take them both and I may have owned both of them at one time..they both have indicators that I may remember .The best one I ever had I was an SGC 70 1915 traded to Frank Foremny for a Speaker Boston Garter and and Konecthy Boston Garter at one of the Cleveland shows, I had 11 overall and 8 together at one time, I am sad to have none now, really am. I bought 2 the same day one from Mike Wheat raw looked like a 5 but faded a bit and the other on EBAY Wheels 1313 Ken was his name and I actually called him and we met halfway in Michigan , I live in Flint and he lived in Bay City that was so cool, then that one got traded to Aaron Seefeldt for 2 1912 Boston Garters Walsh and Rucker but Aaron also had gotten both of my Kotten Cobbs thin and thick paper versions and a CJCOBB, what a trade that was. That 1915 JAckson was a really hi end 3 and he resubmitted it and it came back a 4. Heartbroken I am, my take on the 8 would be around 600k ?
Like Tony Andrea no favorites owning them is a blessing in itself. Happy New Year ! The last one I recieved was another trade on the board from Darryl, I traded my PSA 2 Turkey Red Cobb for his SGC 30 1915 Jackson....MEMORIES Last edited by 823dek; 01-08-2024 at 11:36 AM. Reason: forgot to add |
