Nice cards! I'm afraid I've just got some Calbees, but I'd love to see more Oh cards.

Could Oh in theory be admitted to the HOF in some capacity, the way the Basketball HOF has admitted international players?

That's a great question Peter, but I really don't think we will see it in our lifetimes, if at all.

Here is my collection it's been awhile since I've looked at them and I can't get to them right now. Some of the images in the second picture are included in the first picture.

Probably not. I was just thinking maybe the inevitable induction of Ichiro, plus the astonishing success of Ohtani, would somehow lead to a reassessment of Oh's HR record and place in history.

If there were an international hall of fame I'm sure he would be an inaugural inductee.
I think this is the only Menko card I have, and unfortunately it is not Oh. It is a gentleman named Giichiro Shiraki, whom I know nothing about. |

The largest market for sports is the Asia market and it is being chased constantly. Japanese Baseball could be considered as strong an argument as the US as a national sport and reaches as strong of a competition level internationally as our own. With the inclusion of Negro League stats opening more inclusion of those players in the future and the current enshrinement of Cuban players like José Méndez who spent the majority of their careers playing Cuban ball, it seems natural that there could be more steps to increase recognizing more players. Oh is a natural inclusion. ...Then if you following the bouncing ball it would open the door for Victor Starffin but now I am just talking crazy, lol.

From the article:
"There are about five or six Oh rookies that you could get in [ungraded] GOOD 2 condition for under $100 now," said Fitts. "[Ungraded] VG 3 examples tend to run more like $100 to $125, which I think is a bargain." Ah 2018 prices how I do miss thee….

Well, Oh had a number of 1959 rookies (like, more than 60). In this specific set, there were two. One with glove (Type 1, which you saw), and one at bat (which is slightly more valuable, for some reason). The guidebook prices yours at $2,000 in mint condition, but the figures in the guide are more reflective of rarity/desire, rather than directly correlating to current sale values. This series is listed as R1, which means it's a fairly common set.
That said, a 4 is pretty nice for Japanese menko. Usually they come quite worn/abused, as the cards were played with by kids far more than American baseball cards. H/C indicates this card was handcut, which isn't abnormal for menko, but with its condition, I'd wager this was probably part of a 2-card, or 4-card uncut sheet (sometimes given out as a prize), which was later cut apart. ....but I could be wrong ![]()

I know that PSA puts a "H/C" or "hand cut" notation on some cards, is there a "hand torn" notation for yours?!
