1916 Joe Jackson Altoona Tribune M101-4

I found this card at a flea market in a shoe box and its in rough shape. I've researched it as best I could and see that according to the PSA website that set from the Altoona Tribune had two Joe Jackson's #s 86 and 87. I have a #86. From what I understand it appears to be a rare card. Does anyone have any additional information? I hope to have it graded this weekend by a PSA rep. Also, I've been trying to upload pics but it keeps telling me I'm missing a security code. I'll keep trying.

Pictures would certainly be helpful. The odds of finding a card of this magnitude in a box at a flea market is like getting struck by lightning so cross your fingers.

I believe people have been struck by lightning much more frequently.

There is no authentic Joe Jackson Altoona Tribune card #86. Any AT card of him would be card #87.

Why does PSA list an 86 and 87?

I cannot speak for many of the things that PSA does, but there is no #86 Jackson because that number corresponds with m101-5, and Altoona Tribune backs are only found on m101-4 cards.
Incidentally, the back of your card uses the wrong size and style of typeset/font on the back. Here is a genuine Altoona Tribune card:
The card you show was taken from a reprint set and then artificially aged with a fake back.

It's OK to be curious, but I have found that spending much time trying to figure out what PSA does just leads to a headache.
In this case, there are no graded Altoona Tribune cards of Joe Jackson in their pop reports, so why they listed him at all on that auction pricelist escapes me. That being said, they in fact slabbed one years ago under the mislabeled "M101-4 The Sporting News", a card they gave an "Authentic Altered" grade.

FYI, that is about as poor of a fake as you are likely to see. Most of them will look better than that. Some of them can come close to fooling us. That isn't one of them. It's always caveat emptor around the hobby.
