Please excuse me if this has been previously covered, but my search failed to yield any info on this: How common are '33 Goudey overprints? I recently acquired an Evar Swanson with an overprint of the same card front on the back (I assume the sheet it was in was laid on top of an identical wet sheet). I've seen several posts about the T206 overprints, but this is a new one--for me at least. Is there a premium placed on Goudeys with overprints? Anyone else have one they'd like to share? Thanks for any info. |

Take a good look at the card first - I read somewhere it's actually the ink from the front of the card showing through to the back, as opposed to the kind of sheet transfer issues you see with T206 that creates a ghost image on the back of the card. It's very common with '33 Goudeys and I see it a lot with rich reds and deep blues. I've never heard of a premium assigned to such cards. |

I wanted to resurrect this old thread for a moment and see if anyone else has this same type of printing defect on their Goudeys. Here is one that I just received, and really appears to be an overprint of the front to the back. When I look at it under magnification, I can see the print over the lettering. Since the lettering is green it is more difficult to see, but it's there.

A wet sheet transfer from the sheets be stacked while coming off the press, the ink did not dry quick enough and the back of the sheet on top got an image of the still wet card below.

My first thought: what was the verdict in the Bruces vs. Archive lawsuit?

Thanks Scott and Justin. Another question - not that it makes that much difference - but how will SGC consider it when grading?
