Jacoby. As I remember John Madden saying reverentially when at the end of a game the camera focused on a mud-spattered Jacoby sitting on the bench, now there's a football player.
I was at the Redskins/Bills Super Bowl. The Bills came charging out onto the field, elated just to be there. The Redskins lined up behind, who else, Jacoby -- the team knew damn well who its heart and soul was -- and he just casually jogged onto the field as if it was another practice. A huge, and highly skilled, lineman, I cannot imagine why he isn't there already.

Admittedly, I don't know all of these guys.
But my top 3 would be Randy Gradishar (arguably the greatest Bronco defenseman ever, 1978 Defensive Player of Year), Joe Jacoby (key to Redskins 3 Superbowl wins, All-80s team), and Roger Craig (key RB for 49ers dynasty, 1988 Offensive Player of Year, All-80s team). I think Al Wistert has a strong case too, with 4 consecutive All-Pros. Loved watching Sterling Sharpe, but he only played 7, albeit extremely productive seasons. Roger Craig
Randy Gradishar Albert Lewis Honorable Mention - Had to look up Art Powell. He was not on my radar at all. Dominant WR in the AFL. Seemingly completely forgotten about. At least on my end. Never even recalled his name coming up in conversation before. |

Any list without Gradishar, even as 3, is senseless or biased. Ken Anderson may well make it despite likely not being true top 3. I think it’ll be some combination of Gradishar, Craig, Jacoby, Anderson. Someone really good will get left out. Trent King

Jacoby, Craig, and Anderson. I wouldn't argue much if someone picks Gradishar over Anderson.

It was interesting that Bob Kuechenberg didn't make the top 12 after having made the top 4-6 last year. He has had his case advanced and discussed enough times that he should either be inducted or no longer voted to a semifinalist. Make a choice and stop preventing other cases from being heard like a Lemar Parrish, Del Shofner or Louis Wright.
The New York voters had a rough day with Banks, Everson Walls, Ottis Anderson and Conerly all failing to advance. Of the 12 I think some combination of Gradishar, Wistert, Sterling Sharpe, Steve McMichael, and Ken Anderson is the most likely. Gradishar and Sharpe had great momentum last year, Wister fills the gap of the super senior, Mongo the emotional card, and Anderson fills in the HOF poverty franchise a bit more. If for some bizarre reason I got to choose I would lean Gradishar, Sharpe and flip coins for Albert Lewis/Roger Craig/Wistert.
