Default Which Hank Greenberg? ‘34 Goudey, ‘35 Diamond Stars or another?

I know we’ve done this one before (see earlier thread) but I could use more input because I just can’t decide which is my “one and only” Hammerin’ Hank Greenberg to add to my collection.

My 2 finalists are his iconic ‘34 Goudey (of course) and his colorful and art nouveau 1935 Diamond Star.

I know there are some big Hank fans and collectors here - any strong feelings on this? I do prefer color in my cards over his many black and white issues…
I wish “both!” were an option!

Thx for kicking this old topic up again for discussion… Greenberg is SUCH a legend of the game. Can’t wait to add him to my collection.

Jeff

Love and have them both...but I have to go with the 34 Goudey...just something about it. Obviously, can't go wrong with either though. Thankfully, I bought both a couple of years before the pandemic!

Best of luck with your search!

I am probably one of the few who does not like Diamond Stars. So, its Goudey for me.

Cant go wrong here, but i would go diamond star. Always loved that card, first vintage card I bought so it has sentimental value. Bought a few more along the way, just attracted to it. Have tried to add others but they are moving up in price quite a lot.

I don't own either card, but given an option I would opt for the Goudey.

If I were Hank, I wouldn't want my sole representation in someone's collection be a card with my name spelled incorrectly, so I vote for the Diamond Stars with correctly spelled last name.

For me, it would always be the '34 Goudey. After all, it is his rookie card.

Thx all… I decided to take the extra plunge and bought this beauty of a card from a fellow N54 member!

Can’t wait to get it in hand and on display with my HOF greats!

Jeff, the reason I would pick the Diamond Stars card is the art deco design with vivid colors, plus this card has "Hank" instead of "Henry" for his first name.

1934 Goudey definitely my favorite. Congrats on your pick up Jeff.
1934 Goudey Hank Greenberg signed cropped.jpg

But I'd also vote both in the long term. Just wait till you can swing it.

Thanks Phil! I'm seemingly always on the road these days, and typically take a late night peek from the hotel room, but not much posting. That said, I still look forward to seeing others' cards (including yours) during that peek. Hope you are well too.

BTW- Mr Gehringer is displayed prominently in my new place

For me it's an easy call for the Diamond Stars (preferably "Greenburg" because I love errors), but you can't go wrong with either.
