I always thought the 1961 Topps Wes Covington card was a terrific shot of a player, even a common card at that. I was at a local card show today and found a 2020 stadium club Hank Aaron in a similar shot and picked it up for my own amusement. Enjoy!

The Covington card is a huge favorite of mine. This is my first time seeing that Aaron. I may have to go pick one up. As Phil said, they make a nice pairing.

Absolutely love 1961. My favorite '60s design easily. And Wes's card is one of the best. Something about the color of them and contrast, reminds me of '53 bc actually. Also love Aaron's '61 it's my favorite Aaron.

The first major league game I ever saw was the Phillies v. Giants at Shibe Park in Philadelphia in 1963. Jack Sanford of the Giants would have had a one-hit shutout had he not had to face Covington, who went 4 for 4 with a home run. I always had a special interest in Covington after that. The '57 Topps is a great card, too.

I've got a rule that the more lumber that is shown on a card (or baseball photo), the better.
When seeing a photo like that, I always wonder if any of those bats survived to today or were they all used for firewood?

Mr. Covington was wielding extra lumber in 62 as well, in another great card.

Not as good a hitter as Killebrew, but a classic bat rack card

They could all be captioned...

It was Jose Laboy's diligence in carefully selecting his bats that led to him being a Topps All-Star Rookie.

The sleeve patch on Wes's 1961 card hadn't been worn since 1956. The Braves changed to the "screaming Brave" patch in 1957. Interesting that it's on his 1961 card.

Greg— the Laboy comes a nice pink pastel version as well. I have only 2 of the 1970 Topps Cloth “cards” and Laboy is one
The bat cards are all cool |

The Covington bat rack card has always been one of my favorites. That kid in the stands wearing the red shirt looks to be about my age in 1961. When examining the card as a child, I used to envy him and his view of the game - and maybe a leaning peak into the dugout!

One does not have a card unless they have all obscure versions of that card. Back to shopping I go!

Back when I was actively blogging card stuff I did a Bat Rack Boys post with the 1970 I was collecting at the time.
