Default 1968 Topps set

Hello All,

I have a higher grade 1968 Topps baseball set and I’m looking for guidance on where to auction it off? It started as just a set building project while I worked my way into vintage cards and then it is bowman obsession. I have every HOFer in a PSA 7 or 8 and ex-mt to nm of commons. Currently working through some rough commons that I need to upgrade so it won’t be ready for a month or so but want to plan ahead.

I’ve considered Goldin Auctions but prefer not to use them again. At the moment I’m planning on Hertitage or just posting on eBay for a high number but I feel that is too risky .

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Jeff

REA is a solid choice. Just make sure you pick one of their major auctions

Thank you Scott. I like their auctions too. Been watching each of the major ones over the past year and they were in the top. I’ve heard it’s better to sell individual but the cards are high grade so I’d prefer them together. They tend to honor this at Heritage Auctions and REA

I agree with avoiding the "post it on EBAY for a high number" option. Selling high grade, expensive '50s and '60s sets (like yours) that way is often not easy in the modern marketplace, because nabbing the HOFers and/or building sets is much more popular nowadays w/ the endless choices and online arenas to easily do so.

So if you don't want to likely wait a long time for the right buyer, you'll be better off using the big auction houses or breaking it up

Thank you, it would also take quite a bit of effort to break up and sell in pieces. Assuming that I don’t send the wrong card(s) to the wrong buyers

Do you have any idea as to how much you are wanting to get for the set? I would call different auction houses to see if any are willing to give you a lower sellers premium. Depending on the value, you may be able to rate. I did this last year and consigned my cards with no sellers premium. I was very happy with the results of the auction.

This is an excellent idea! Thank you for suggesting it! I have an idea of what I would like for it but it’s more of a reserve price because I haven’t seen much sold in a manner that’s consistent to what I have. Most are mixed grading companies or mid grade mixed with high.

Where did you decide to consign? This is a fantastic idea, I never thought of it. Thank you!
