I want the Astros to win the World Series. I'm not worried about the Guardians, but Philly and San Diego look really good. The NLCS should be fun.

That 7th inning was absolutely brutal. Hindsight is 20-20, but I wonder if Roberts regrets taking Anderson out. He was dealing. The Dodgers' bullpen, not so much. Oh well, I suppose I pull for the Padres now.

Yes indeed, the San Diego-ose has landed. Watch out Phillies, you are the next stop on the Padres migratory path to the World Series.

Yep, this is what happens when you flip coins to see who the "best team" is. Gotta love baseball and the 5 games series.

I have to say, since so many of the “favorites” have been thus far eliminated, this should make for an interesting post season.

Just out of curiosity, what does the math say about the difference between a 5-game and a 7-game series in terms of the probability of a major underdog knocking off a favorite? Just for fun, let’s say a hypothetical team with 89 wins was facing another hypothetical team with 111.

It's abundantly clear that Boone has lost the clubhouse. The disconnect with him and the players was shown when he doubled down on Holmes being "Sore" and unable to close the game, only for Severino and Holmes himself to say, "We don't know why our closer wasn't brought in, in the ninth inning." They deserve to lose with the disgraceful way Boone has been managing.

As someone who doesn’t follow the game very closely these days I have to say yesterday was pretty amazing to follow. The tension in that Seattle-Houston game was off the charts (but all those strikeouts ). Hard to image how those Mariners fans must have felt sitting through 18 innings only to see your team eliminated.

Nice to see Machado and Mancini still in the hunt for a ring. Go (Ex)Orioles!!

Yankees may not get past Cleveland.

If they do the Astros await. They wouldn't get past them.

Altuve didn't even hit in the Seattle Series and they swept a very good Seattle team.

Once his bat comes to life, they will be unstoppable.

I never have seen such an awful hitting game. Players swinging at anything and for the seats. Even Altuve in one at bat swung at 3 pitches that were way outside the plate. I can't understand why players no longer know where the strike zone is. I watched the whole game and you really can't say the pitching was good. The hitters just stink.

From what I have been seeing in the Yankee Cleveland series the strikes zone has been a tad bit erratic not sure if this is global and accounts for the free swinging?

How about NFL playoff where you lose once and you are gone? And flipping coins is a ritualized part of every football game.

It's baseball!

Things have changed over time. I'm not sure if I'd used the word "evolved" with baseball. The word I think of is "manipulated".

Saul Goodman - The basic rules are the same, you throw the ball, you hit the ball, you catch the ball. It's become more statistic oriented these days but that's what one of the allures was about baseball to begin with.

Where else is a 60% success rate consider awesome for a season.

If you collect baseball cards, let's say T206s, then you decide, do I go to a ball game with my family or do I pick up a couple T206 HOFers?

Edited to add - yeah, Go Pudres!!! So nice to see Goliath taken down. All season long the Dodgers took it to San Diego, but look what happened when it really counted! AND THAT'S why we love baseball!

I agree with Olbermann's assessment. Yet another reason for me to watch old game TV broadcasts and listen to OTR games. I also think Dave Roberts is soon to be done in LA and Boone will be also after the Yankees are eliminated by Cleveland.

I have to admit, I do prefer the 8 team playoff system MLB previously had in place (with just one wild card team per league). Now with 12 teams, this is coming dangerously close to the NBA or NHL, where your team only has to avoid downright mediocrity to not make the playoffs.

It's easy to play arm chair quarterback with regard to a baseball game.

I was happy to see Anderson get pulled after 86 pitches and dominating the Pads. It was good to see Kahnle come in. I thought Roberts was going to bring in Evan Phillips for the 7th. I figured he was going to use his high leverage reliever at that time. Woulda, shoulda, coulda - glad he didn't!

If MLB wanted the team with the best record to be the champion it could just eliminate the playoffs. I think the current format with a good chance for upset in the early rounds is great. Shorter series should favor the teams with the best top rotation anyhow, in theory.

Not trying to be snarky but there has been nothing but complaints about the playoffs this morning. I think it’s because 2 huge fanbases got eliminated in LA Atl and NY is on the verge.

While I’m not a Padres fan, my second favorite team is whoever is playing the Dodgers on any given day. This week, it happened to be the Padres.

Seeing the Dodgers and Yankees booted from the postseason in the same weekend is OK with me! Let's go Indi-Guardians!

As a Dodger fan I find it hard to cheer for them with Roberts as manager. He messes incessantly with the line ups, takes out hot pitchers because of analytics, etc.

I mean how many times can you have the "best" roster and lose until you get called on it?

I'd like to see the Phillis win it all now. Padres are too "look at me" for my taste, especially with Soto.

It’s a pity they couldn’t go down on the same day.

I was having delusions of grandeur with grand designs to post this quote:

No band wagoner here...Padres have been my team since 1982 when I moved to San Diego. By the way, there is only one true San Diego Goose. Go Pads!

This. It made much more sense when we had 154 games to determine order rather than 5 or 7. It will never revert because playoffs are $$$$, but it made more sense.

Is Keith Oberman still alive? He fell off the map to me when he left ESPN 20 years ago.

Probably a Mets or Yankees fan with that attitude.

PLAYOFF BASEBALL IS TREMENDOUS FOR TRUE BASEBALL FANS.

True baseball fans don't need a team to root for to watch & appreciate great baseball. (Although I'm rooting for Houston & Cleveland myself)

He's obviously not a true "baseball" fan, he's a fan of a particular franchise.

I also have to admit I have no idea where he works now or what he does...

I agree. Many times (and I love baseball) I was bored to death by regular season play. This post season has been exciting and we've actually seen things like bunts (do you guys remember those?). If we start seeing things like hitting behind the runner and suicide squeezes, I'll probably faint.

As a Yankees fan (but not one of THOSE Yankees fans), as well as a fan of baseball in general, it’s fun to see some relatively unexpected teams moving ahead and watching their respective fan bases get excited.

I think that the guardians are an underrated team. They ran the table the last month of the season and remind me of the early jeter-era Yankees. Lots of confidence, grinding and good play. I’d of course love to see the Yankees win, but this series feels like the 2003 World Series version of the yankees, when an upstart Florida team ran them over. There just isn’t a cohesion among the team to grind out the wins in these important games.

Should Cleveland advance, I think that they will give Houston a run for their money.

I don’t know much about this year’s padres, but it’s nice to see that their rebuilding efforts are bearing some fruit.

I'd like to see the Phillis win it all now. Padres are too "look at me" for my taste, especially with Soto.
Two things are guaranteed in almost every Dodger post season. Roberts will overmanage, and Kershaw will get shelled.

Olbermann was back on Sports Center just a couple years ago after giving up on his resistance programming. He’s “still” alive…

I am not for or against any team these days, but Dave Roberts is a terrible manager and watching Dodgers games, laden with great talent, can be frustrating as a result.

Completely agree, in fact I think these Playoffs have ruined regular season baseball for me. (Not really, but close....still need it during the summer months).

EVERY Series, EVERY game, maybe EVERY inning, both Rounds, has been tremendous so far!

He has likely been outbidding all of us on the vintage cards we want.

Is it possible Roberts is just following orders from the booth that is running real time analytics?
