Hello,
This is my first post on this site. I just got back into collecting baseball cards after I went through my childhood collection of cards in the Spring. Did not realize the age of tale of late 80’s and early 90’s cards being next to worthless. As I learned that lesson I’d like some help with another newbie topic. I’ve heard a lot about rainbow parallel collections and how a set of the variations are called a rainbow. Looking for advice on how to approach selling a partial rainbow that I have put together this year of Mike Trout. It’s for Topps Series 1 and doesn’t included the 1/1 or 10/10s (list I have is on the bottom) but I was wondering what folks out there do when they sell something like this. Whenever I put something in to eBay for past auctions I only see the rainbow parallel card and not all of them. The main question that I have is; is it better to have all of them graded, grade only the rare ones (black, camo etc) or just keep them raw? Appreciate any advice I can get on this. I also have one for Aaron Judge on 2022 Topps Series 1. Thank you!! You're not in a great place to inquire...most of us here focus on vintage. There are a lot of good Facebook groups that can give you some guidance .
This is going to break your heart, but you have to break it up to maximize value. There are auction houses and private collectors that would be interested in the 1/1, 1/10, etc. The rest may go just as well on ebay. As others on this board will attest, I'm often wrong. |

Hi, Thank you for answering yeah I didn’t think this was vintage. I’m also trying to collect 1968 Topps baseball too but have no one that I know who does this so I’m using google and threads as a resource. I think the Judge one I have will sell if he wins MVP but not sure about Trout. Either way, thank you for getting back to me. Even if it’s not what I’m looking to hear it’s still helpful.

Jeff
take a look at the REA auction that just closed. There were several Bryce Harper lots across multiple years that were similar to what you are describing...numbered parallels, foil variations, etc. They were all sold as lots. they were all graded 10s so maybe a little different than your raw group, but might give you a sense for how they were valued as a group versus what they might be "worth" individually. I actually thought they sold pretty cheaply given the cost of grading and the difficulty in finding some of those cards...that echoes the previous post...I have to believe you will maximize profit by selling individually unless you find a Trout collector that values the ease of one-stop-shopping Mike |

Hi Mike,
I didn’t see the Harper ones before they were sold otherwise I would have looked at them closely. Thank you for pointing those out to me. I’m surprised as well that those sold for so cheap, especially being 10s. I know Trout is a little more popular but there were quite a few good ones in there. I will likely end up having the serial numbered cards graded, especially /25 and /50. Hopefully I can get a review of done through GemMint services. They offer a grade review which made help save a little on something that may end up an 8. Also, I assume by your name you are a Sox fan. The only other “rainbow parallel” I found anywhere was a Bobby Dalbec someone had on eBay. I think they wanted 1,500 but the seller offered me 1,050. I’m not interested but if you like Dalbec check it out. Thank you again! Jeff |
