Default February Pickups

Couldn't pass up the centering and colors on this one, despite the low grade.

I really like the Koosman-Ryan 68 rookie. Great card. Just picked up these two upgrades. Ernie is slightly diamond cut, but the colors are gorgeous. Neither one broke the bank.

My LCS never has anything that nice. It's always the new shiny cards. I think you did good.

Man, am I psyched!!

The 1969 Clemente is always a monster of a card to find centered in high grade, and this fantastic example looks just about perfect to me. And it cost less than 10% of what straight 9's (with slightly better top-to-bottom centering) have been going for lately. I jumped at it!!!!

(For kicks, check out the PSA Auction Prices Realized site and look at all of the PSA 9 OC Clementes. Every one of them is falling off the right side of the card. None even come close to the centering on this guy.)

First card I picked up for a little collection I’m starting of professional baseball players who served in the military. Second one of an E90-1 is on the way.

This just arrived this evening. When I seen this card just recently, (within the past couple months) I just had to have a copy. Not wanting to spend a lot of money as I am still searching for the remaining high numbers for my 52 Topps collection, I chose this one.
Other than the smashed/soft corners, it is actually a pretty decent copy, imo.

Very nice. I got a similar one back right before Christmas - right down to the slight tilt on the bottom border. That is one card (also other '55 and '56s) that always seems to still look good, even in lower grade. Congrats!

I kinda giggle every time I see that card, because it seems like after they finished the shoot, the photog must've said, "Hey, Willie, can we just get one more quick one?" and had him re-pose. That's why his left thumb is on the same side of the bat as his other fingers - he's not gripping it like a normal player. It's as if he just grabbed the bat quickly for a last second 'pretend you're at the plate' pose, then dropped the bat and left.

Nice card! This is the best of his cards, IMO. Mine is decent, but with a nice thumb tack indentation and hole, so I got it at a realistic price.

Set up at the Shreveport show today, and I managed to snag a few cards.
Not the greatest shape, but a HOFer RC, an early Rose and a couple others.

That sure is a nice card, and a rookie. The Bowman and Leaf cards were issued in 1949. I don’t care what year is on the Leaf card’s back!

This card seems to be getting harder and more expensive to find so I figured I’d make it a priority even though I don’t plan on starting the 53 Topps set in earnest until 2023. But I’m glad I got this one checked off now. Plus it looks really good with his 52!

You should have a contest. Whoever comes closest to guessing what you paid for that ridiculously phenomenal lot gets an expensive card.

56T Jackie arrived from another member. I was in the right place at the right time. Very thankful for his kindness. Jackie joins a couple teammates I already have. And he makes my eclectic Jackie collection even better.

And the red Cobb is exceptional!

Thank you sir! I love the 66 Mays card and it is so difficult to find them centered. .

Two pickups from my local card shop. My first 52. The card shop owner is retiring; I've used this shop for 25 years. He's selling to a young owner, but Im not sure how the vintage will be. It was a little shallower than usual.

I'm not a fan of 52. But I do like the 56. That Killebrew is my 5th. I might continue to pick up others. My LCS had a sharp Kaline, since he's retiring I might pop back in after a week to pick it up. I really like the 56 Mantle. I'd have to save for that one.

Nice pick ups Phil. I see your centering OCD is still alive and well!

Chipping away at my second 1966 Topps set, picked up some nice high numbers at a local show here recently. These may not seem like sexy pick ups, but to set collectors they are! I think I am enjoying doing these sets in duplicate as much as the first time...also a great opportunity to upgrade original sets.

That 66 Russ Snyder is no easy card...thrilled to get that one off line!

I'm upgrading cards in my sets. The one I sought, obtained, and became slightly disillusioned was a 1953 Bowman Color Dale Mitchell. Those of you who have collected this set already know that this is a very difficult card to find centered. The one that I have/had in my set was a PSA 4.5 recent grade; it has sharp corners, but the centering is 25/75 left to right.

I saw a perfectly-centered Mitchell advertised in ex to ex-mint condition od Greg Morris's site. Bidding was ending during the Super Bowl and I won it at a great price. When it arrived I was ecstatic, until I saw it under the light and noticed the card has an indentation in the bottom left corner of the card as though it had been squeezed, the rest of the Mitchell is fantastic.

I've purchased from Greg Morris before and will continue to do so in the future. The card has great eye appeal, better than my PSA version, but there's the damage. I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do yet. Here's the card:
