What is going on? Have these events just become a joke? I turned on the NHL All Star game and I have no clue what that was. 3 on 3 round robin? Then today I flicked on the Pro Bowl. I watched about 2 minutes as there was an interception and return for a TD and no one tried to stop it. Sad. Why bother showing this stuff. I hope baseball doesn't fall too much farther in the All Star Game. Everyone remembers 2002 when the game was ended because there were no more pitchers. Then they pledged to do better and make the game worth home field advantage in the WS. But that stopped. What happened tp playing for pride? In the old days players would stay in the game as long as they could, not this Little League everybody has to get in crap! Man it nauseates me.

I agree with your stance. Interestingly, the NBA All-star game has gotten way more competitive and entertaining since they implemented new changes a few years ago:
-Top vote getter in each conference becomes a team captain and they do a "draft" for their team live on TV (this will be happening this Thursday on TNT) -Each player (or team, I forget) chooses a charity and the winner gets more $ for their charity -They changed the scoring system so that each quarter has a "winner", and so there is no clock at the end of the game. It's pretty awesome compared to the dull AS games in the other big three US sports.

Call me old fashioned but when you play by certain rules all season long why change them in the all star game? Now you can't compare a players performance in an all star game today vs years ago. Which league has more victories, etc. Players should play for pride and try to do their best. Oh well I guess those days are long gone. Man am I
old.

I think the NBA AS game changes have been a fairly successful attempt to fix the exact problem you describe. The charity and draft aspects of it have really helped, because they introduce more of that pride element.
The last couple of NBA AS games, the players were playing harder than most regular season games!

Football and hockey all-star games have become a mockery of their respective sports. As for basketball, who even cares anymore really.
Why even have the events, a huge waste of everything related to them. Baseball plays for something at least. The others, bah not worth the electricity. NASCAR racing in the LA Coliseum is much more entertaining IMHO.

Football I sort of get. I think they should just kill the game off completely. Salaries aren’t guaranteed for injury in arguably the most physical sport. Maybe that’s the solution - anyone that plays in the pro bowl gets a guaranteed contract!

Both are a complete waste of time. I find myself more interested in the statistics than actually watching any of the games. I just like numbers!

I didn't watch, but have seen some "highlights" from the probowl.
People were trying less than they did in my gym class, and that's not easy to do. |
