I've seen auctions describing the player depicted on this card as Curly Neal. Others say Bob Gibson. Which is it?

Not Gibson

I don't think its either. Curly was a globetrotter starting in '62 and Gibbs was busy breaking into the majors in 58.

I don't know who it is, but it's not Bob Gibson.

Great card.
It looks like the player has a pencil mustache (correct?). A few of the Globetrotters that year sported that look. It looks to me like Herman Taylor or Tex Harrison but I couldn't be certain. It would be cool if it was Wilt Chamberlain (he was with the Globetrotters before joining the NBA) but I don't think it's him. The roster for the 58-89 Globetrotters was: Wilt Chamberlain Herman Taylor Clarence Wilson Tex Harrison Meadowlark Lemon McCoy Ingram Roman Turmon Millard Harris Ed Burton

Neither, and it ain't Meadowlark. This is:

Neal was still in high school at that point and didn't join the Globetrotters until after college IIRC. Cool card though.

Actually thought it was Jesse Arnelle but he was on the team in 56.

I decided to go down the rabbit hole on this one.
Based on this picture I can see why there are people making the claim. Bob Gibson Basketball.jpg -Pencil thin stash -Similar build and musculature, especially in the arms. -Similar distance between eyes and hair line -Similar nose. I'm not saying it is Bob but I can see why that's out there. |
