that's pretty cool. Greatest Pirate of them all (even with a little gibberish now and then).

THANKS for posting that link. I'd not ever seen that.

Greatest Pirate??? After reading The Glory of Their Times, and after listening to the 4 cd audio version again and again, adding in the wisdom in the first edition of Mr. James' Historical Baseball Abstract... adding in the Cobb v Ruth stuff and considering that Cobb intentionally tried to hit home runs for maybe a week at the end of a season just to show he could hit home runs like Ruth if he wanted (I think some of the games were against the Browns in St. Louis, a good park for a left handed hitter to hit, and Cobb hit maybe a couple of home runs more than games played in that span)... after all of that I believe that Honus Wagner is about the greatest ballplayer of them all. Better than Cobb. And better than Ruth. The old player that saw and played with Cobb and Ruth thought Wagner the best. Crawford, standing beside Cobb for years in the outfield, HOFer Sam Crawford thought Wagner the best. So I reckon the best ballplayer ever could also be the greatest Pirate.

Really neat to hear him talk, to tag that one ball that musta gone to if not over the wall, to see that perfect throw to the second baseman pivoting to throw. Thanks.

That was just plain cow. Honus should probably have taken that wad of chewbacca out of his mouth for the interview!
