Default Musing over Matty’s E107 Portrait

While comparing Matty’s E107 portrait to some pictures from Bucknell yearbook pictures. Was wondering if they used a Bucknell picture taken from college days for his E107.
Horner may not yet have taken a portrait of him. Below is a picture of a sophomore union close up from a 1901 Bucknell yearbook. Picture maybe a year earlier than 1901 as they used some same yearbook pictures for 3 or 4 yrs. in those days.. This yearbook has Marty on 1899 baseball, football, and 1900 basketball team. Matty was a freshman in 1899 and therefore a sophomore in 1900. Just wondering if it’s a Bucknell picture or a 2 year later portrait.

The ears match and it’s not Joe Jackson. Thought I would just get ahead of that.

I personally think it was taken around 1903. Heck, he was considered a "famous" prospect back in 1901:

That 1901 Police Gazette of Matty is awesome.

The E107 image of Matty was definitely around in 1901. It was featured on the cover of a Sporting Life magazine. I will try and find an image.

So they use the Same image in a 1901 sporting life as his E107. . Which leads me to believe it could be a Bucknell image.

point taken. Interesting observation and certainly well within the realm of possibility, given the circumstances and the use of that same image in the 1901 sporting life.

Default 1901 Matty image

I picked-up this "relic" last year and have been trying to ID/date the image. The image is about 4" X 5" and it is from a publication, as there is print on the back (although, this baby is taped and glued like is was trying to get away). I presume, some kid/fan constructed this thing, then when the paper image was showing signs of wear, packing tape was applied to further protect the image. Check out the back, there's a picture hanger and even cooler- a kickstand! I thought is was from TSL based on the size and medium, but have only found the same image used in a June 7, 1901 newspaper.

Great pull on that 1901 Sporting Life image, Kevin! I've never seen that cover before.
