SOLD Walter Johnson 1924 "Pennant Winners" pin
$1,075 shipped. One of the truly great baseball pins, this 1 & 3/4" beauty might be the nicest overall of the handful I've seen over the years. Some minor scratching visible only on extremely close inspection, no foxing, and the contrast couldn't be much different than on the day it was made, it looks practically perfect from a foot away. Presumably sold at Griffith Stadium during the Nationals' home games in the series, it would certainly qualify for the overused term "rare." The 1924 World Series, until last year the only one captured by Washington in its long baseball history, was the high point of The Big Train's career as he became the hero by shutting down the powerful New York Giants attack for the last four innings of a 12-inning thriller in the seventh and final game in front of President Coolidge and 30,000 delirious D.C. fans.
