It's always fascinating to see ads like this, where things we recognize today as icons in whatever specialty once had to be promoted and the public made aware that they exist.

Even Action Comics #1, considered the most important comic book ever published (first appearance of Superman), had to be advertised.

Interesting to see who were considered the big stars back in the day. Wagner, Keeler, and Delahanty sure, but also Beaumont, Pastorius, and O'Leary.

Two cubs who were never household names but working on a 3-peat. Overall looms large in franchise postseason stats, at least until Jake Arrieta came along. Only took 105 years! Joe Tinker was pretty well known nationally, had four T206s and a slew of local endorsement deals but not in this ad...

They actually aren't that rare (certain ones will be) if you keep an eye out for them.

I am pretty sure that the Delahanty on the Ad is Ed's brother. Ed, of course, made an unscheduled stop at Niagara Falls and never came back.

Love these ads! There are 2 - one with Wagner and one without. Came out for 8 weeks in the summer of 1909. I've only ever seen 1 of each issue, part of a run the HOF had that Lelands auctioned off. Would love if anyone knew more about how many may survive...

Here is mine - has an early career Wajo on the cover - July 17, 1909. Old pictures, but the newspaper is absurdly fragile.
