![]() The Origin of the Sepia Hall of Fame Postcards Early in 1934 the collection of baseball art effects collected by Alexander Cleland was well underway. The Otsego County Historical Society agreed to add its credential to help with the collection of baseball art effects and to record, maintain and secure. The collection was displayed at The Village Club Building for the public to see. Why these souvenir postcards were created by the Otsego County Historical Society is a mystery but they did provide a quality souvenirs to the public after their visit to The Village Club. These postcards marked Pub. by Otsego Co. Historical Society predate the postcards produced by the National Baseball Museum using the same style and manufacture. Cooperstown’s photographer Arthur J. Telfer had taken photographs of baseball historic events and baseball relics that were used by the Freeman's Journal to produce sepia toned souvenir post cards. I rarely post my CDV of ol' Abner, since he probably had nothing to do with the game's origins, but this thread gives me the opportunity! (My avatar, btw - which I use strictly for irony. Also, because it's my oldest card).
