SOLD 1920 Cubs Cardinals Grover Cleveland "Pete" Alexander Ticket
July 5, 1920: Chicago Cubs St Louis Cardinals Doubleheader at Sportsman's Park
This is a ticket stub from the 7/5/20 doubleheader between the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals at Sportsman's Park. The 5th overall game the Cardinals played at Sportsman's Park and the Cubs 1st series ever in the Park. Stars like Branch Rickey (Who would bring Jackie Robinson to the Majors 27 years later), Grover Cleveland "Pete" Alexander, Rogers Hornsby and Jesse Haines in the house for this one. In fact, Hall Of Famer Grover Cleveland "Pete" Alexander took the loss in game 2. I do not believe any Grover Cleveland Alexander regular season game tickets have been encapsulated by PSA. Own a rare ticket from this HOF pitcher whom they made a movie about: The Winning Team starring future President Ronald Reagan.
Sam Breadon + War tax on Cardinals stub='s 1920. While the war tax was still in effect in 1921, most teams just started calling it a "tax" as represented by the Dodgers and Yankees 1921 tickets shown for reference in the Ebay listing below. Breadon's first year as president was 1920 so only possible year is 1920.
Just for the Cardinals/Cubs ticket shown is for sale, the other photos were just taken from the internet.
Another Ticket from this 1920 Cubs Cards in season series just sold on Ebay confirming the date on this Ticket, however that ticket did NOT feature a performance by HOFer Grover Cleveland "Pete" Alexander:
