Is it possible for collectors like us to create a site like ebay? Just by halfing their ridiculous B/S tax of 10-15% would attract people to use our platform instead. We'd need savy web designers with new ideas as well as a financial team, etc. to pull it off. If this dream happens, we of net54 and other serious, knowledgeable collecting forums would be the main shareholders and profiteers. Personally, I appreciate the fact that net54 must be a constant thorn in the side of AHs and the Ebay's of the www. All they do is sit back and collect transaction premiums while we are the ones who fuel their machine with our treasures.

Guessing you have never actually discussed the business side of running an auction company because if you have you would very quickly realize they do not just sit back and collect transaction premiums. There is a lot that goes into running the business including acquiring consignments, dealing with unrealistic expectations, photographing, research, writing description, producing a catalog, accounting, paying salaries, buying software, answering questions from prospective bidders, shipping, etc. I would recommend talking to a few of the auction houses, many of which the owners are members of this board, and find out what kind of profit they are really making from the business.

Going into a business with the idea of not paying sales tax, or any kind of tax, isn't a good strategy.
