I have 8 different Old Judge Cards that have been skinned. Also, all that is left is the picture of the player on each of them. I know that they are authentic.
Does anyone know which players are shown? Wanting to know if these have any value? Photos are now attached. Thanks ahead of time for anyone's help. Last edited by SCT; 08-24-2019 at 03:18 PM. Reason: Need to attach photos |

Sutcliffe
Kennedy Duffe Robinson Carpenter Burk’s Treadway Daly Probably worth $40-$50 each. Nothing scarce in there. Sorry, didn’t notice that Webster had already identified the players. Last edited by oldjudge; 08-24-2019 at 04:55 PM. |

Good job Webster!
To answer the question about value - Not only have the cards been trimmed, they also appear to be skinned. If there was a really tough player (e.g. Flynn or Hahm) OR very desirable player (e.g. McPhee or Browning), then there might be a little value in there. In the shape those are in (no name, trimmed, skinned), my guess is that someone might pay about $10 a piece for those (maybe). I wouldn't pay $10 for any of them but you never know, someone might appreciate the fact that it's a 130 year old picture of a ball player.

Sorry Jay, I didn't think they were worth that much ($40 - $50) because of the condition and the fact they're missing the player's name.

I have a friend that told me about Net54Baseball.com years ago. He told me it was a great place to learn, etc. I really appreciate you guys that replied to this. I bought these initially thinking that it was a great buy, but then I really doubted myself. You guys have put my concern to rest. I bought the following book: The Photographic Baseball Cards of Goodwin & Company (1886-1890). It is a great book, but still tough to figure out players just by their picture.
Thanks again!!! |

I have one additional Old Judge Card which I bought, but really am unsure if it is real or not. I was told that it is definitely authentic. It has a pinhole. My question is whether you believe this is an original or not. It just seems too nice to be real. At the same time, I know with the pinhole, the grade is no more than Poor to Fair and maybe just authentic at the best. It is completely flat. I haven't seen a fake one before.
Thank You Last edited by SCT; 08-25-2019 at 11:31 AM. Reason: Added on a detail |

If that aint real, I'm going to stop collecting OJs because if it's a fake, then someone has a great technique in making realistic fake OJs.
Just from the look of it, I'm 99.99% sure it's real.

That looks real to me. I’m not sure what you think is “too nice” about it, but I have raw OJs that look very similar.

I have bought very few raw Old Judge Cards.
Now, I am going to begin to read through the different topics of the forums to gain some more knowlege in some of these areas that I seem to be weak in. Thank you |

Question:
Concerning: Kennedy (259-4) Pitch, hands chest high Des Moines (WA) Omaha (WA) Theodore Kennedy I am not able to find even one of these Kennedy cards ((259-4) listed on VCP. Does that mean that this one is at least somewhat valuable? I was able to find the rest of the Old Judge Cards, but not this one. Thank you to anyone that can help with this. |

I would go by the scarcity ranks in the book for approximate valuations...but others know more than me about it.

Des Moines and Omaha collectors might pay more for it, but the lower portion that shows the team names is cut off. That is not the most desirable card in the lot. I would think Home Run Duffe or Yank Robinson are more popular cards and would sell for more.
There are a lot of OJ's that are pretty tough, but don't sell for what more popular cards sell for. I am about a blue slope expert on these because I refer to the book and collect some of the set. There are others on here who know much, much more and would have pointed to anything that was a special example. The condition of these really hurt their value.
