Do Ebay sellers who offer "free shipping" realize that they discourage multiple item sales?
We know shipping is worked into the single item's price, so why would anyone buy 5 items and pay the equivalent of 5 shipping charges? |

I just message the seller ans ask how much for the items I want. Some will end the listings and relist them in one lot for me and some don't.

The seller doesn't take offers. I messaged them asking if they could a little better if I bought 5 and they replied "dude, I'm already footing the bill for shipping, so no"

I did free shipping on a couple items back when I was selling. Hardly anyone bought multiples, out of maybe 200 sales. Doing free shipping increased sales by about 50%.
The item was also odd because when I was charging shipping, it cost less to send to Canada than here in the US. |

Shipping fees, because they are normally in U.S. funds as well, factor large in my purchases.
In my quest for 52 Topps cards and others, I have turned down lots of cards due to high shipping fees. If I see cheap or free shipping, those dealers will be getting the majority of my business, guaranteed. Bit of a different story but just today, I was trying to pay an invoice for an Orr card I won last night. Shipping was listed at $4.00 dollars but the 2nd and 3rd invoice read $9.58 for whatever reason? (I was sent 3 in total with only 2 minutes between them) I contacted the seller and he explained to me, that after dealing with EBay for the last year about this problem, they still haven't gotten it right. After a bunch of back and forth's he requested I also contact EBay and complain but luckily it never came to that as it was finally corrected after he contacted them yet again. When I went to pay the first correct invoice through PayPal, it would automatically default to the higher shipping fee one. Has anyone else ever noticed this before? Can EBay, despite what the seller lists his shipping as, override that shipping fee and charge more? Was an eye opener for me to pay close attention that's for sure!

Here is my reasoning for using free shipping when selling on eBay.
In the past, I would charge $3.75 for every graded card (plus $1.00 for each additional graded card) that I was selling on eBay. Frankly, I felt that it was fair. However, I would constantly get dinged (not receive a 5-star rating) in feedback for "shipping & handling charges". A lot of buyers fail to give much thought to: - The price of postage has gone up (it seems to be every other year). - The price of shipping supplies (bubble mailer, labels, printer ink, etc.). Now I utilize free shipping on eBay and incorporate the aforementioned shipping charges into the overall price. Now nobody can ding me for shipping & handling charges.

The seller has postcards that usually sell for around $10 plus shipping, he lists them for $15 with free shipping. So if I buy 5, I'm essentially paying $25 to ship 5 postcards. Buying one is not so bad but buying 5? No thanks. |

95% of what I sell (not that I sell a ton).
That being said, if someone reached out wanting to buy in bulk, I’d happily right-size shipping for them. So, the issue isn’t so much free shipping as sellers hiding behind it and being inflexible. |
