Why are 1965 Topps high numbers so cheap?

I’m working on the set and just noticed that most have a book of 8-12.00. Were they over printed that year?

They were printed in much higher quantity and aren't much tougher than earlier series.

I’m down to final 10 cards in exmint or better (the big names) . Nothing is really hard to find either so depending on your card budget you should have no problems

Back in the day, till about 1982 or so I could at times pick up 64 and 65 Hi #s for a dime each. No way I could do that with 62, 63, 66 and 67.

I had friends with tons of them at a dime each and yes they are much easier than the other years I mentioned.

To me, 65 is interesting because IMHO the 284-370 series is actually the toughest series of 65

Interesting to hear that back in the 80's the 64's were on par with the 65's. Clearly not the case today, in fact 64's may be tougher than the 62's and 63's. Any insight Rich as to what happened to the 64's for that perception to change?
