I was the only bid on a lot, so I think that means I’m the winner - very excited! In the 25+ years of bidding with REA that has never happened to me. This either makes me terribly astute or ignorant of the market.

Congrats. What did you win?
And I love how we use the term “win”. In your case, as the solo bidder, you probably are a winner. But I feel “winner” is a back-handed compliment after I have paid beyond top dollar to get that title. |

That is always nice as you can call it an early night if that was the only card you had interest in. I really like REA's closing method. Very to the point with no late night or should I say early morning disappointment

We all talk about winning auctions. Winning just means you were the guy willing to pay the most.

And you are correct. I should have titled it, “I won the right to purchase the card for a higher price than thousands of seasoned, well-informed collectors decided to.” It’s amazing how this cardboard stuff turns grown men (in my case old man) into giddy children. Hope I didn’t screw this up. Last edited by wondo; 03-24-2019 at 05:16 PM. Reason: Don’t know English |

Just after 7pm and I’m biting my nails because I’m still ahead on more lots then I anticipated at this point. Would be happy winning three of the ten....of course I’ve been through enough of these I may still lose all ten.

"THE AUCTION IS EXTENDED! All lots close at once. The auction will remain open until 5 minutes pass without a bid. We reserve the right to close the auction at any time after 10 PM EST. We recommend using our Honest Auto-Bid system to place max bids!"
Yes, any one with a single bid is still eligible to be bid on. See this card: https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...e?itemid=55043 There are still live bidding buttons available on it.

If you click on the "Place Bid" button on the D359, it will say the lot is closed.

From REA terms: “All lots remain open for bidding until the close of the entire auction. All lots are closed simultaneously. REA does not employ a lot-by-lot closing method. Technically items that have received only a single bid will be closed for bidding during the extended period since only one bidder would have qualified to participate in extended bidding (and cannot outbid himself); however, ll lots remain open for bidding until the close of the entire auction. Technically items that have received only a single bid will be closed for bidding during the extended period since only one bidder would have qualified to participate in extended bidding (and cannot outbid himself); however, items without a bid entering extended bidding will remain open for interested bidders to bid during the extended bidding period. I don't think so: "IF YOU HAVE NOT BID ON AN ITEM BEFORE 6:00 PM EDT, YOU CANNOT BID ON IT AFTER 6:00 PM EDT. Based on past auctions, it is expected that the bidding may continue for several hours utilizing this method. If the auction continues beyond 10:00 PM EDT on Sunday, March 24, 2019" So if there is just the 1 bid, the person who placed it is the winner. Just have to wait for the rest of the auction to end. |

Ah, cool. They should mark those items closed then. Sorry for the confusion.

Some solace - knowing that I pushed someone to pay (over pay?) just a bit more than I or anyone else was willing to.
Some regret thinking just to be willing to pay a bit more and.........nah - I reached my limit. Under bidder on about a half dozen lots and I'm done! Congrats to the ultimate winners (auction still open) - price aside, you got some GREAT cards! |

Hooray! I won something too. The T227 lot of Baker and Bender. This completes my "set" of four baseball players.
I really wanted the Diaz Ruffing. I'm jealous of whoever won that. And what was the deal with the E107 Phillipi? $14K, far more than many HOFers. |

All of the pre war card lots I was participating in sold for just the right amount. Nothing went crazy except for the Cicotte hand grip study photo by Conlon. Photo's seem to be the wildcard when it comes to prices. So i tread lightly because there seem to be some heavy hitters who compete for these.

Yea I noticed that one as well. I thought it would go between 2-3k. It certainly had excellent eye appeal, worthy of a pwcc high end designation.

Used to think the same way but eventually realized that many of the "anonymous" bidders I was costing money were good friends. It affords me neither pleasure nor solace but not much we can do about it. These auctions are a bit like a brawl with blindfolds on.

It's a very nice card but it has a crease. I would not, therefore, call it exceptional. The CJ Cobb is certainly flying you are right.

On the other hand an M116 Wagner in an 8 went for only 9K. A card (set) that gets no love.

But the Blue M116 Wagner SGC 4 went for $6,600, which is strong. The Blue M116's get lots of love. The Pastel ones, not so much.

I save 19th century trade cards that depict the game or are baseball themed. Probably paid too much for them but I got the N135 set. I have several others and this will get me a near complete set. Several duplicates which I would be open to selling.
Under bidder on the Red Stocking Sheet Music. Have several others but always liked that one. Too much in the end. |

I won these:
#1059 - 1948 Leaf Ted Williams PSA 8 - one of my favorite cards, I've probably had a dozen or so over the years now and just decided it was time to upgrade once and for all #1298 - 1956 Topps Harmon Killebrew PSA 8 - working on an all PSA 8 set, this is one that has continued to elude me until now #1677 - 1933 Goudey Ted Lyons auto - only Baylor University alum in the HOF, had to have this one #1754 - 1954 Topps Hank Aaron auto - this was a late bid for me, but just felt it was underpriced considering the HR and Hits inscriptions; you see his RCs signed pretty regularly, but not with the inscriptions; the "9" auto grade is pretty laughable, so may have to cross this over to PSA I was underbidder on #885 Mathewson Dark Cap Sovereign PSA 6.5, so once that gave way I switched over to the Aaron. I bid on many of the T206 HOFers but most got a couple bids or more away from where I was comfortable. I think the Breisch Plank was maybe a little cheap, almost went for it but decided I like another of his cards more. I almost chased the 52 Mantle PSA 3 as well, felt it sold at a really fair price - just decided that wasn't the one for me. Overall good auction I thought, especially for those who consigned some of the T206 portraits. Once again, those prices were really strong. |
