Hi, can anyone help with this baseball? It is a 1928 Yankees team signed baseball. The ball was only produced between 1925-1927 according to JSA. The inscription seems to say Gehrig's 29th Homer, 6-22-27. I can't seem to match up the date to that home run. He hit his 29th career home run 0n 7-22-1926 but date on the ball looks different than that. Thank you so much! Joe

Anyone think it might read "6-23-27"? Yeah, it looks like 6-22-27,
but maybe it's just a clumsy, scrunched-up "23." Gehrig homered three times that day...

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. Yes, I see he hit 3 home runs on 6-23 but they were his 19th 20th and 21st of the season. It looks like it says 29th Homer on the ball. Maybe he meant to write 19?

Would viewing it under a black light work?

It kinda looks like the original inscription has been traced over
in order to darken or emphasize it (there appears to be, below the inscription in question, other writing that's faded to near invisibility) -- might inaccurate retracing (if that's what it is) have screwed up what was originally written there, having misread a faded date or the ordinal number of the home run?

I think Butch nailed it.
The inscription was clearly traced over, but I think they messed up. Under the 2 in 29th there looks to me to be a pretty clear vertical line for a 1, which would make this his 19th hr and make the date correct for being his first hr of the day (6-22-27). I can also see a fan thinking it would be fun to get this ball signed the next year. Very cool piece.
