I purchased this 1947 “Bond Bread” square edge Stan Musial on eBay. It’s obviously not a 1947 Bond Bread and I don’t think it’s the 1949 Sports Stars edition. It measures 2 1/4” x just short of 3 1/2”, glossy front, tanish toned back and very thin stock. EBAY Seller claims card is from a large stash he purchased that was uncovered in New York in the early 1980’s. Looking for opinions on classification and value. Thx in advance, Tom

Not exactly what I had envisioned for my first post here, but I can offer you a clue of sorts on this. I recognized the image immediately as the exact same one from the 1951/1952 Berk Ross cards. Perhaps some of the other members here that are more knowledgeable with that issue can help. I'm betting its some sort of photo or simply a copy of one that was used for those cards. That might not be the exact answer you are looking for, but at least it points you in the right direction. |

Honestly don't recall if it's covered in here or not, but if not then you have something new to contribute to the old thread.

Hi Tom Swift
The ebay seller is an honest guy. This Stan Musial card is a reprint. One of 24 cards reprinted from the original 1947 BOND BREAD set of 48 cards. Here are some examples of the original 1947 BOND BREAD cards (the backs of these cards are a bright white color)...… ![]() TED Z T206 Reference . |

Have done a lot of reading about these square corner cards. Here is a link i think helps define this oddball set.
http://thevintagesportscards.blogspo...zed-bread.html There were also some believed to be distributed from penny arcades (square corner), and even some reproductions in 1949. |

Thanks for all the input. I didnt feel the card had anything to do with the 1947 Bond Bread series as advertised so I opened a return with EBAY yesterday. Thanks, Tom

There's a giant thread on here about it too.

We have discussed these many times and the square ones have always been thought to have been newer remakes.

There is some great info in this thread:
http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=92743 That original thread got up to 3 pages long. I have a bit of new additional information that may help or may muddy the waters. Here is a new group of movie star cards I picked up. These came in a "Screen Star Subjects" pack but they are not square cornered as was reported for the 1949 issues. |

David The rounded movie star cards depicted in your post were most likely left over cards that were originally in BOND BREAD packages (or meant to be in BOND BREAD packages). Or perhaps these cards were at some later time inserted in the COLLECTORS & TRADERS SCREEN STAR SUBJECTS cardboard packs. Do you have all 4 packs which contained the 48 movie star cards ? You could be right Ted. I really don't know that these cards absolutely came in this folder, but that's the way they came when I bought them. I only have the one package that I bought from a dealer in Arizona.

As I just told someone else in a similar situation, all's well that ends well. Watch out for square bond bread cards.
