I just saw the National Sports Collectors Convention has been postponed till December 12-16th 2020....it'll end nine days before Christmas...wow that's a new one....I wonder how that will fly... ADDENDA: Actually I read on in their announcement the following...so it's not even 100%... Should State and Federal guidelines indicate it is safe to hold an event like the National in 2020, we have tentative plans to hold the event in Atlantic City from December 12-16. We would expect any such guidelines would ensure the safety of our exhibitors and attendees. We will monitor the situation and make a decision by the middle of September. This will allow enough time for participants to plan for the December show, should it be feasible. If it is not deemed safe to hold the event by the end of the year, we will cancel the 2020 National and begin planning for the 2021 National in Chicago (7/28 8/1/2021)

I predict the weakest attendance on record, if it really happens.
Christmas parties are in full swing, and most people typically save their vacation time for between Xmas and New Years. My company would not even allow me to take that time-frame off, as year-end objectives and quotas are being pursued to the hilt at that time. The weather will be frigid and scary, and the town pretty much shuts down after Labor Day anyway. The Covid scare will still be lingering, especially if there's a "phase 2". Flying there is already a logistical nightmare... and the understandable fear of flying makes it even worse. I bet the only people who attend are the already committed dealers and the relatively few collectors who can drive there in less than 3 hours. A bad self-serving decision on the part of the committee. Last edited by perezfan; 05-09-2020 at 05:50 PM. |

Who needs the National if you have an established network and internet access?

Good decision on their part. Hopefully things will be safer by then, in which case I might burn some use it or lose it time and take my son up for the day.
