I put this in the ticket thread but took it out and put it here. I want to get some feedback as to if it is real or not? I have concerns. Not sure how Commiskey could have been involved when he was 13 yrs old? Maybe the stamp is newer?
Back is blank.

Southside park didn't open until 1890. I suspect the 1872 is the ticket number not the year.

I have never seen this ticket before, but agree with Paul.

ps...by the looks of the ticket I am guessing 1880s to 1890s but hopefully someone will know the exact date.

Must be a number of some sort, definitely not a year. There was no American League as we know it in the 1800’s., in addition to the Park problems.

The voucher looks real and The American Leauge and southside park date it between 1901 and 1910. My guess is it is near the middle of that range. And yes the 1872 is the voucher number. Jmho

The White Sox did not exist until 1901. Comiskey brought his St Paul Saints team to Chicago and became the White Stockings in 1900 then American League in 1901. I agree this is most likely from the early 1900’s.

Exactly Paul no American Leauge until 1901 and southside park closed in 1910. So there is your range. I call it a voucher because that is what it is. You redeemed this voucher at the gate for either a ticket or they let you in to grandstand/ general admission. I would think that somewhere is the booklet it came from, maybe search auctions and worthpoint. The 1872 looks sexy but only identifies the book it came from nothing else.

Thanks everyone. Seems I am the recipient of optimistic advertising again (in conjunction with my lack of research on the front end). My mistake but no harm no foul, except a little time lost.

Comiskey was 13 years old in 1872, as mentioned by Leon.
As others have mentioned this is the voucher or serial number of the ticket. I have seen Comiskey's own papers and he was very generous in his gifting of passes to games. People were constantly asking for them.

Several years ago, one or more ticket books containing multiples of the Comiskey complimentary tickets surfaced in the market. As a result, for a while these tickets were frequently seen by ticket collectors. I hadn't seen one surface lately. White Sox rain checks that I have seen between 1908 and 1910 have the same "Comiskey" printing style as the complimentary ticket.
