From about 1978 to 1983 I used to write to players in a non-stop quest for autographs. I'd research retired players to get their home addresses or I'd send to current players at the various stadiums. When it came to the old timers, I'd usually only send cards in rough shape, so if they didn't respond (which happened often) I wouldn't be out too much. Overall, I did pretty well, though, and have a bunch of autographed HOF cards to trade, including rookie cards of HOF'ers Bench, Winfield, Carlton, Schmidt and Carter (and Baines)!!!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Let me make this abundantly clear. All of these cards except Brooks Robinson (card show on Long Island), Steve Carlton (various card shows via a 'Lefty' collector) and Enos Slaughter (from a trade) were obtained through the mail (TTM). I don't have a single COA or anything of that nature, so I can't truly claim they're authentic. Of course, I got these at a time when autographs weren't such a cash crop business, so there was never a reason for me to doubt their authenticity. To see all the scans of my HOFer collection, see this section of my bucket: https://www.flickr.com/photos/152396...57683208175844 I also have a wide variety of other autographed cards of stars, semi-stars, commons, etc., from the 70's and early 80's (there are pictures of many of those in my bucket, too, but I have even more of them laying around). So if you're looking for anyone else, I may be able to help. If you're interested in anything, LMK what you have to trade. I'll be happy to answer any questions. I'm not looking to sell anything, just trade. I am always very interested in these: • HOF'ers in nice shape from the 50's and 60's, graded or ungraded • Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Mickey Mantle, Jackie Robinson, Ted Williams & Roberto Clemente cards • 1958 Topps HOF'ers • 1971 Topps Greatest Moments • Tough to find errors and variations from the 50's through the early 70's • 1964 Topps Stand-Ups (need virtually any in nice shape) • 1961-67 Topps high numbers and SP's • 1962 Topps 'green tints' graded 8 and higher • 1963 Fleer BB stars and HOF'ers in nice shape • 1954 Bowman BB stars and HOF'ers in nice shape • 1954 Red Heart BB (need virtually any in nice shape) • 1968 Milton Bradley HOF'ers • 1972 Topps HOF'ers, high numbers and other cards in NM shape and nicely centered to upgrade my sets • 1972-73 OPC Hockey starter set in nice shape with stars and/or high numbers • T-206's or other pre-war cards (possibly) • And I'm probably open to a wide variety of other things as well

I have to bump this old thread now that my 1981 Fleer Harold Baines has ascended to the glorified status of autographed HOF rookie card.
