Opinions are needed please.
Here are my concerns. 1) when you look it up it says it's a piedmont on PSA website however this is a OLD MILL. 2) The case looks frosted badly. 3) The bottom looks like there is dry glue inside the case. Thanks so much for your help in advance. It's very important to me to know this. Here are photos.

I need better scans, and a scan of the back would help, but from what I can see the card is questionable. All that damage to the card appears to be fake. The creases and crack on the card are so white that the "damage" seems to have occurred very recently.

Can you take a non angle pic of the front and reverse showing the card and case?

WOW, That slab has been cracked open and that is probably not the original card to that slab. I would stay far far away from that card. The scammer doesn't even know how to crack a PSA slab, damn novices.

A PSA cert look up shows that it should have a Piedmont back:

If you collect T206s long enough, it takes you less than 1 second to determine if it is real or fake. But this one has me stumped. Here are the facts:
- very dark ink in relation to the wear and tear - super dark Old Mill back - damage looks natural though - name looks natural and in dark brown ink - PSA cert says Piedmont, card is actually Old Mill - case looks cracked - something about Cobb's face looks off - rest of card looks ok |

Yeah this one seems pretty tough but i would veer away given the fact that it is a questionable card and the registry has it as a different back. It's always possible the registry could be mistaken but given the circumstances I would just play it safe.

I'm a raw guy myself, so not horribly familiar with cracked cases. But as guy who has eyed lower condition vintage for almost 2/3rds of my life the card itself looks real to me. Here is a scenario: this case was cracked and a real nice looking Cobb, perhaps with some back damage, came out, and in goes this authentic but beat up Cobb.
Man I have a lot of cards that look like this, so it better be real. Brian Last edited by brianp-beme; 04-25-2017 at 11:48 AM. |

Just a few things that I notice with the card are that the black on his hat is way to dark and you cannot see any of the detail of the cap, his uniform is also to dark, and the name and team look black to me. This is just from comparing to the picture on T206 Resource. My thought on this is fake.

Thanks for the input everyone. I was the owner of this card for the past few years. I think I bought it around 2013. I did buy it from someone who I thought was a reputable dealer, so this is weird for me. The OP and I worked out a trade to get the card back in my hands. I'm the last person to recognize any PSA case tampering. While it is very suspicious, I do know T206s very well and this one looks good in person. Why an authentic Cobb would be in a case that was tampered with is beyond me, but I will crack it out and keep it in my raw collection for awhile, and maybe try to submit to PSA in the future. Again, thanks everyone for their opinions on the card. Just wanted to get the story out there before anyone starts assuming things, because I have posted this card here several times before...

Well said Cole. Simply send it back in and get it re-holdered. Let us know the outcome.

I'd pass without thinking twice. The creasing/paper loss damage on the front looks way too white in some spots which screams fake to me.

Buy a loupe and compare the printing on this card to a common raw T206. It will take you about 30 seconds to determine whether or not it is real.

The difference, at least to my eye, is that the card which you posted has the same color in the creases as the border. The Cobb has multiple shades of white in the creases, and they don't all match the border color. Imo that leads me to believe that it is fake. Of course many on this board are far more knowledgeable than I am. Just throwing in my 2 cents.
