Anybody else other than me have sellers remorse over a sale of a card/cards that you have sold at some point in your life. I have two. First I sold a number of E90-1 American Caramels to Mr. Mint about 20 years ago and the second is I sold a 51 Parkhurst Hockey set about 15 years ago. Sometimes you have to let things go but I wish I had those two sales back!!

I sold about 15-20 2009 Bowman Chrome Mike Trout signed rookies for $750-$1,250 and now they are around $3k-$4k. Not complaining about my profits though

I had a 1940 Playball Joe DiMaggio and sold it just as the grading companies were getting started. Sold it raw and it would have graded an easy 7.

Had a PSA 5 Ruth #144 and a PSA 1 '52 Topps Mantle. Sold them on eBay back in 2005. Got $4000-$4500 total for those two. And I wish I hadn't traded my Tip-Top Boy card for a heavily creased E94 Cicotte at the height of the D-card market.

I regret having sold my childhood collection consisting of most significant cards from late 50's-late 80's at that time...1986 or so.
Other than that my main regrets are not having bought cards rather than having sold them! |

not a valuable card, but long ago I had a T206 southern leaguer of Paige with an old mill back. despite its sentimental value, I traded it away. sometimes I sit and wonder whatever happened to that card.

Too many to think of... here's a sample, a near complete run of semi-high 52T cards, missing Mays, all others were there and all would have definitely graded out at "7" or "8".....
There's much more but it sickens me to think about it...

I'm pretty sure I regret every card I've sold. Two that are particularly disappointing are a Pittsburgh Exhibit Mantle and a 1952 Topps Mantle. I helped someone complete a run with the first and tripled my money on the second, but I'd rather have the cards and can longer replace them in my budget.

I had a T205 Cobb with clipped corners that I bought as part of a collection. It was not especially pretty and I think I got about $250 for it a couple of years ago. I wish I would have held onto it - at least until I upgraded to a nicer example. I have always loved that Cobb much more than the T206’s and probably more than all of his cards except the CJ.

Onto my regrets: 1968 Topps 3d Clemente - sold raw right around when PSA was getting started - sold for 6K - customer got it graded..........a 9 - 30k card overnight 1966 Topps punchout Mays - 2-3k many years ago - didn't realize how rare it was... sold years later for 23k 1968 Ryan rookie - I owned it since I was a kid - easy 8 - possible 9 - turned down 2k for it when they were selling for 1. Sold it for 1k a year later when no one cared as much. A couple of years later PSA came around... Then there were the ones I never pulled the trigger on that I wish I had .... like the Clemente rookie 8.5 for 10k. 1958 Kahns Clemente probably a 5 or a 6 -for 1 1/2 times "book" at the time ~$500 ![]() ![]() No one ever learned anything from doing it right With all of that said - grateful to have the collection I do and be part of the net 54 community!! As someone who fancied himself a teenage sports card dealer in the late 1980's there's way too many regrets to not get sad about, especially from an economic perspective. I actually wish I was more of a pack rat and hoarder and not a seller with an instant turn it around mentality, considering even then I preferred the somewhat older oddball material, even if it was considered "junk" at the time, then the new releases.
There was the short stack of Michael Jordan Rookies along with everybody else in that set. The boxes and boxes of 70' and 71' Topps Football Cellos The wax case of 84 Topps Football The giant stack of 73-74 Topps Basketball Rack Packs A giant stack of uncut sheets from various sports, of the various Topps insert and specialty sets from the early 1970's ...........and tons of other stuff all sold for a song..............or enough to pay my car insurance bill and rent to my parents for the month. Got interested in baseball cards again back in 1988. Attended my first card show at a high school gym sometime in 1989. Couldn't resist what was a really nice copy of a 1957 Frank Robinson. Paid $350. Had a company close down on me in 1991 and was forced to package the Robinson with 5 other cards (including what I think might have been a 9+ second year Stargell) for $300. Still hurts, especially when I see Frank Robby's that couldn't hold a candle to the one I had selling for 3x what I paid. Oh well.

I loved this card and was the one to holder it with PSA.
With many other high grade copies existing due to the black swamp find, I decided to sell it. Now I wish I wouldn't have as the Orange color was more unique. I could have, however, bought it back for $300 less than what I sold it for based on the previous last 2 sales. I just wasn't aware it was even being sold. PSA's auction prices realized I noticed the track history on it easier. If anyone sees this listed again in the future, bump this. ![]() ![]() Last edited by murphy8276; 01-20-2018 at 08:26 AM. |
