I look forward to seeing more photos and hopefully hearing about where this came from.
Ruth was the first player ever to hit 200 home runs, so I can see the milestone having been worthy of a presentation piece: https://www.baseball-reference.com/b..._Home_Run_Club

Clearer images of the Ruth Ball - it is solid and heavy, weighing 188 grams.

Boy, that's a head-scratcher. Poorly constructed whatever it is. Makes you wonder though who would take the time to do that? I wonder if there is a 1920's baseball inside.

Also makes you wonder if the person who caught the 200th home run ball did this and that might be the ball inside... Gave it back to Ruth... In any event it is a real head scratcher....

Yea, the construction and engraving look amateur. I doubt it was a team presentation piece but maybe some local organization gave it to him after he hit 200 home runs. Still pretty interesting though.

Pretty interesting. Is it the size of a standard baseball or smaller or larger? Have you ever thought of having it x-ray'd to see if there is anything inside of it or does it feel solid throughout?

That's a fascinating item. Seeing those tack/nail heads it sure appears to be a baseball covered with a sheet of metal. Ruth hit his 200th in May of 1923 in Detroit. Would you mind sharing how and where you acquired it?
