1999 Yankees World Series Baseball

Hey guys.

I need a little help please.

I purchased 1996, 1998, and 1999 Autographed Yankees Team balls a few weeks ago.

These were all purchased from the same gentleman who attended shows after their World Series, and had documentation from shows as well as photos with him and the players while they were signing the balls.

Long story short, PSA said the 96 and 98 balls are AUTH however the 1999 is not.

I am not here to bash them, rather to get some other opinions from the more knowledgeable autograph collectors on the board.

What do you guys think?

I'm not stating that it is bad, but I can see why PSA failed it.

Maybe it's a function of being rushed, but there are at least a few atypical signatures on this ball. I've been collecting these sigs for a long time.

* Not loving the Rivera at all. If I saw that as a single signature on a ball, I wouldn't touch it. I have over 50 Riveras in my collection and have studied him closely for 20+ years.

* Jeter ends very strangely

* Brosius is atypical

* Not loving O'Neill

What also puzzles me is how did he obtain these at a show? The last big public signing Jeter did was at the NY Coliseum in January of 1996. I was there. He NEVER appeared at any of the Meadowlands shows. To my recollection, neither did O'Neill. By 1999, the team was too hot and most of the big names were no longer doing those NJ shows. I waited 17 years to get Brosius on my 1998 Yankee print.

Again, I'm not saying it's bad. But, between the atypical examples and the story that doesn't add up... I'd get it looked at by someone else.

In my opinion, JSA is very good with Yankees from this era. It may be worth running it by them for a second opinion.

This ball looks very strange to me. I have to agree, the Paul O'Neill signature is really different from what I'm used to seeing and I don't know what happened at the end of the Jeter. The Rivera signature seems off to me too and the M in the Mendoza signature looks really similar to the M in Mariano. Just my opinion.

I am not an expert at all on the Yankees (or autographs in general)...but some of the signatures look to me like they were done in the same hand?

I still think it's good. But Steve knows much more about this period than I do.

I compared to other Yankee signatures that I obtained in person and those I purchased from Steiner and I agree there are a few signatures that seem inconsistent with those I have. I would like to see the other two balls.
Only 2 "shows" I know where a person or persons could get a team ball signed during that time period The spring training event to benifit boys club and Welcome back dinner in NYC. Both expensive and short window to get signatures.

I was initially hesitant to outright call it bad because sometimes signatures can look off when squeezed onto a crowded ball. But every signature I knew well didn't look right.

I would be concerned about the other two balls. They may very well be fine, but you should get them double checked.

Steve knows Rivera better than I do and it's not authentic. It has no speed to it.

yea. that's why it's weird that the other is not authentic. Same guy as the other. what about this 97 ball? Same guy.
