Hi guys today was a pretty big day for me, I got my "Big 4" of Cobb, Wagner, Johnson, and Mathewson back from SGC and I was pleasantly surprised with the grades. I also was able to pick up the remaining postcards from the owner which included Spaker, Gibson, Dooin, Overall, and Devlin. These are extremely rare, the pop report shows the speaker at 5 and the Gibson at 6 (I would consider trading the 3 commons for a low grade cobb but the rest are going in my PC). The gentleman I bought them from picked them up at a garage sale. Older women who lived there told him that her mother (who lived in Pittsburg) won them at carnival games on the strip. I know the maker of this set is unknown, but does anyone know if these were a regional issue? Or were they only released in Pittsburgh? Any info would be great, thanks!

Nice collection that you have there. These postcards were not just regionally issued in Pittsburgh. I have seen postmarks from quite a few different East Coast cities.
FYI the set can be dated to 1910 and uses the exact same subjects as the PC805 Novelty Cutlery set. Last edited by Baseball Rarities; 04-06-2018 at 05:39 PM. |

Great collection!
I don't believe anyone knows where they were produced and distributed. I've been trying to see if there is a link between whoever produced these and Novelty Cutlery of Canton, Ohio since they produced sets with the same images and players. The Pittsburgh Carnival thing is really interesting. |

Great PCs! I just posted a graded PC796 of Gabby Street (SGC 40) for sale in the BST if you want to try to catch Steve and complete the set!

Very nice cards Joe and congrats. My money is on Steve completing first as he has the Plank. Still, a very cool and tough set to collect.

![]() Its a great set to collect, all of them use great images and together look awesome as Joe has found. Definitely a great way to go with your first PC set, 15 HOFers, another star card in Chase and nine commons including Gibson. |

These postcards feature gorgeous, large PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGES of baseball players. Cards of that time were all artists renderings that often didn't look at all like the player. It is amazing to me how rarely this is brought up. Cobb's actual photographic image didn't appear on a standard card until 1916 as far as I know (please correct me if I am wrong). I'm pretty sure it's the same for most, if not all, of the HOFs in this set. This is a beautiful set.

A Kawika sighting! I remember when you got your Speaker for card #24 and then sat and waited with JVB. I remember bugging you about info for the set and what was available.
Mike was also a big help to me, especially with the Speaker which I consider the second toughest of the set. Mike sent me a few others as well and scored 20% or so of the set in one swoop. |

Thank you everyone for the kind words and information regarding the set. I was curious if any had completed the set with such low pop #s; Congrats to those that have or are close, it must have taken quite a lot of patience! I'm not a set builder, I mainly focusing on Cobb/HOFers so I would be willing to part with the Gibson or others 3 commons if anyone is interested. Thanks
