Extreme Temperatures

For those who live in hot climates (100°F+) is there any concern with leaving cards in a hot mailbox for a few hours? Could it possibly damage older cards?

Call me a little paranoid, but I hate when I miss the mail!

Desert heat won't harm them. I'd be a little concerned with high humidity, but not for just a few hours. Direct sunlight wouldn't be great, especially if the cards were in semi-rigids, but if they're in a mailbox they will be OK.

You and I need to meet up some time. I haven't met any fellow collectors in Phoenix (yet). I did see Al C. during his cross-country trip earlier this year, but that doesn't count. I moved here from Boston about two years ago.

I concur with what Todd said...my vintage cards seem to have held up pretty well even after hanging out in the mailbox for a while during 118-120 degree days.

Thoughts on cards in a gun Safe? Any risk to them if slabbed sitting in there?

I think it would always boil down to temperature & humidity.

A safe in a non-climate controlled environment is going to have the first two fluctuate which could potentially lead to excess moisture forming on documents, cards, etc.

If you live in a really humid environment I suppose just placing a hygrometer inside the safe to watch conditions wouldn't hurt.

There's lot of good to say about the Arizona heat. There's that, and there's, um...................

We just celebrated our 100th day of 100 or more degrees this year. Trying to reach last year's 113 such days. Fun times.

Used to live in Tucson and no issues with cards in mailboxes for a few hours. Lack of humidity also helps preerve the cards.

If it's dry, I don't think the heat's an issue. And a few hours is pretty much nothing.
