Default Josh Gibson items

I know his stuff is extremely scarce but was curious to see if anyone has any items of his they could share. Greatly appreciated. Also does anyone know how many known examples of his autograph have been authenticated?

Outside of anything that can be documented as “game used”, that piece has to be the grail. One of the greatest pieces of memorabilia known to exist, and (true to form) PSA cannot even get it centered within the holder. Impressive!

They should fabricate a completely custom case for instances when items are worthy. This would be a worthy case.

Default 1950-51 Toleteros Joshua Gibson

Here is my 1950-51 Toleteros Joshua Gibson. I will be getting it graded at the National next week. Hoping for a PSA 4!

There are ~28 copies of the Toleteros Josh Gibson to exist. It is his only pack pulled card ever made close to when he played, a true baseball card Holy Grail, the "Black Honus Wagner".

Agree... For what they charge and how long they make you wait, get the damned thing centered and create a stellar presentation. PSA is crap.

Hard to imagine anything better than that! There are a few Grays scorecards around where he is in the lineup, perhaps pictured also. Can't remember if he is in the Negro Leagues Yearbook from 1945 with Williard Brown of the Grays on the cover.

Many years ago I had a barnstorming program that included the Rochester Red Wings and whatever team Gibson was playing for at the time. The program included a nice pencil autograph by Gibson. That's one I wish I still had. Sorry no image.

I looked through some old stuff and found a copy of the program. The game was played in Rochester in 1945 between the Rochester All Stars and the Homestead Grays. Gibson signed just below "Doser's Grill" and above the Rochester line up. I had forgotten that the autograph had been cut out of the program before I got it. You can see that in the scans. The signature was in pencil and presented much better than my copies show.

It looks like the first page of the program ended up upside down, but you get the idea. I had this way back in 1995.

Gray's vs. the US Army in the '40's (fundraising game for the war.) Usually Satch graced the program covers, but Josh grabbed this one!

Spectacular! What year is this from? I assume the Army teams were white? Any idea what the record for the exhibitions was?

The program was from 1943. All the soldiers were from PA (they were a strong team -- (30 and 3) -- and had a couple of major leaguers on the roster. Grays won the game though, 6-3. Gibson, Leonard, Bell, Wilson and Brown all played for the Grays. Leonard homered, and Gibson doubled and tripled. What a game, and not really covered in the history books. Everyone always talks about the Ruth war bond games, this was the Grays war bond game!

Fabulous artifact from a historic event. That one belongs in the NL HOF.

This is gorgeous! Any chance you could share images of the line-ups?

Yes, please share the rest of the scorecard - it's a real beauty. A look at the lineup and uniform numbers would begreat interest to Negro League historians, and I doubt there'll be another chance to see one again.Thank you for showing it here

Nice trip down memory lane. I once owned the Toleteros card, snapshot photo, ‘34 Crawford’s panorama and ‘37 Ciudad Trujillo. Not luck enough to have gotten the ‘31 Harrison Studios p/c, although I tried hard. Sad to say that all are gone today but better to have once owned than never to have owned at all, correct?
