Hey, just starting to collect T206's. Figured I'd start with Eastern League players because I am from near Toronto and thought it would be as good as any place to start. Put a bid in on a Doc Adkins (Baltimore) card in PSA 3 condition. Checking SMR, the card is listed at $42 value. It's the PWCC auction and its a day in, and the card is already at $50. I checked other listings of the card on ebay and the prices on this card, in low conditions, seem really high in asking price.
Some listings note that the card is a 'tough common', but when I checked the POP report at the PSA site, the card had a average population. (near 300) Just wondering if any of you veteran T206 collectors had any insight on this topic, and if there are any other cards like this I may run into. *All the backs are of the common variety. Thanks, Marty

I was going to post about this too, good call. It has always been noted since I started collecting T206s in April that this card is a very difficult common, but legit, why the high price tag? I think the answer is quite simple. The Adkins card itself has very nice appeal, is a portrait, and was already in decent demand. When people started to realize this, the card became much more treasured such as Titus or, even more similar, Durham. I wish I had never sold my trimmed card for $6 back in May!

Just one of those slightly tougher commons where you don't see as many. Took me a little while to get one in the 'regular' common pricing, but wasn't terribly hard. My guess is you'll find one.

My guess is there is someone out there hoarding Adkins. There are other Minor Leaguers that are tougher to find, yet nobody seems to notice. PSA shows 248 Adkins graded and 218 of Poland. Same team, similar pop numbers, vastly different prices right now. Seems like the demand side of the equation has seen a spike lately for some reason.

Building off of what Luke said. I'm pretty sure Adkins has a descendant (his grandson) who is a member of this board. He may or may not be one of the hoarders of his card. That is probably the best reason to hoard a card unlike whoever hoarded the Titus way back when.

T206 Insider has it 18th toughest card in the set and the toughest minor leaguer. The higher graded number could be based on how tough the card is, making it more appealing to get graded than an average common card

I have to say im one of the Adkins hoarders, only because I collect Orioles.Ive got 15 Adkins cards in the last year or so.I think even njdunkins 6$ trimmed one.14 are pied,1 SC fac 30,I did this because of the beauty of the card, not the scarcity.Lukelyon is right ,Ive found it way more difficult to find Phil Poland cards at good prices.only have 4 .all with different backs
