Was thinking about buying a "GU" hat. The MLB cert says it is "Team Issued" but the seller refutes this by saying the hat has been initialed by the equipment manager (this is true, I recognize the initials) but the initial signifies it was used in a game. Is this a thing? Do equipment managers initial everything issued by the team or just items prior to game use? Thanks in advance!

I've not heard of this but can't say it's not true for the team in question. You should know that some uniform items certified by MLB as "team issued" may in fact be game used but not certified as such because the person who issues the certification for the team did not personally see the item being used. You would have to use your judgment as to whether the hat exhibits the typical characteristics of genuine game wear.

So the theory isn't total BS then - it could be viable?
