Cape Cod Baseball League

Hello all,

Has anyone ever been to a game at the Cape Cod Baseball league? Looks like an incredible time. I am from the west coast, but we want to take the kids to the Cape maybe next year for a week during summer and would like to catch a game as well!!

Being a Mass. resident been able to see many C C L games over the years. Very good league that has featured as many great future pros as any other. There are numerous teams scattered throughout a very small area with each one having that "small town local 9" type of feel to them. Can`t go wrong, great competition/BEAUTIFUL weather/family atmosphere and the caliber of ball I`d say is between Single A and Double AA. Do a quick search on "past C C L stars" and you`ll see some of the biggest both past and present. Bye the way, if you`ve never been "down the cape" in the summer, the traffic can be absolutely brutal at peak travel/vacation time. Hope this helped !

Which town would you stay in , if you knew nothing about Cape Cod, but wanted the entire experience? We plan on going next summer or the following. But it's one of those unknowns for us since we have never been there. Where would you stay and what are some of the big things to do there?

Used to stay in the Barnstable area on the several occasions we vacationed on the Cape. Picturesque, with plenty of small-town
amenities within walking distance of our accommodations -- grocery, restaurants, other shops, plus access to woodsy walks.

If you appreciate the genius of artist/writer Edward Gorey, the nearby Gorey Museum is an absolute must.

Beaches big and small about every quarter mile the length of the Cape, all sorts of restaurants from upscale and ritzy
to mom-&-pop diners, loads of other historical museums, bookstores by the dozen, antique and craft shops, antique shows
and craft fairs... do lots of research before you go, though, because many places are open only seasonally or have goofy hours
of operation -- there are weeks when everything is happening, and a few weeks when almost nothing at is happening.
Cape Cod League, for instance, is very short-season -- like mid-July to late August.
And bear in mind the Cape is a little bigger than you'd expect -- it's a long drive out to Provincetown and back.

Thanks for the write up! I assume each town has its own identity? How is Hyannis? Is there a good hotel to recommend? Something maybe like the Hotel Del on Coronado? Also, what would be the best time of year to go?

Hi Jeff, we didn't do an awful lot of touring on any of our trips there, preferring a restful stay with short outings.
Hyannis seemed pretty busy and lively, in some ways the most "modern" town we visited, predictably upscale. There is
(was, anyway) a card shop at one end of town, but, at the time at least (maybe three-four years ago), it carried mostly
"shiny stuff" and recent-manufacture memorabilia (plaques, &c'), and their inventory of vintage was mostly post-war
and in poor condition.
Sorry, can't provide any hotel recommendations -- we always stayed at a friend's mansion ("cottage" by Cape standards).
We would recommend late July to mid-August for your visit -- best weather and Cape Cod League in action.
