I recently got 2 oil paintings depicting Richie Ashburn receiving the Phiadelphia Bulletin most valuable Philadelphia player award in 1951. It may take a few photos, but the various signs say "putt putt", "no. 1" and "Tilden terror". Note the Mummers on the field with the American flag.
Special thank you to members whiteymet, Dto7, and bobs for their research assistance. I do not know the artist, whose name seems to be "thos." Or "hios", any help appreciated. If anyone has any photos or information on the day, I am interested in seeing them and or acquiring them. Despite the bluish tint to the opposing team uniforms, the Phillies played the Giants that night (September 26, 1951). |
