Took a chance on an Ebay auction recently. Admittedly, these scarcer Postwar issues aren't my strongest area of expertise in the hobby so I'm hoping for some opinions if it's real/fake. If you guys feel it's fake, no worries I can get the card sent back to the seller. Though, perhaps let me know how you can tell it's fake so I don't make this mistake again in the future

Looks good to me. I used to have one of these in about EX that was perfectly centered. Wish I had never gotten rid of it...

Looks good to me ... and not just because of the scrapbook residue.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the good news so far! In your opinions, what are ways to determine the real cards from the reprints? They kinda look the same to me....

RPs seem to have a "sharper" color, whereas the color for an original is more subdued (can't think of a better word) ... also the white borders on originals have a different shade of white

Moving this to the main page for additional insight others may have. 1954 is almost "pre-war" right?

I think you have a nice Johnston, though it appears that you are pretty rough on it.

,based on my raw and graded Johnston Cookie cards, that your example matches up just fine. I have a few of all the years of both Johnston & Spic & Span because I live in Wisconsin. I wonder if a fraudster would crease and scrapbook damage a reprint. I don't remember tho if Larry Fritsch sold these as one of his reprint sets which would offer up a piece for someone to work with. So...I think your scan shows you have a good card.

Without actually having my PSA Ex "5" in front of me, I would agree it looks good. Great pickup, and a lot of potential there over the years after the current investor market dissipates--so much tougher than the Topps rookie, plus Johnston Cookies, per my info, had its factory just beyond the outfield fences at old County Stadium in Milwaukee!
May joy follow you in your collecting, Larry Last edited by ls7plus; 08-09-2016 at 02:42 PM. |
