Framed T206 photos!

I am new to this forum and started collecting a select few T206s about a year ago. I wanted to be able to enjoy them every day so I had them framed. They are all SGC graded 2-4 (except the Speaker which was a PSA 2 which has been unfettered, and the autograph which was PSA/DNA certified). Full disclosure, the Speaker is an adaptive reuse of a cracked Elmer Knetzer Historic Autograph Original. The matte is green suede. Let me know your thoughts and show me pictures of your framed T206s. My wife tells me mine are perfect for the office.

Thanks, I tried the Powell and the Mullen horizontals, but they did not work as well as the Dunn psuedo-horizontal.

It is UV protected glass. I will keep them out of the direct light, but if they fade slightly that is a trade off I'll take for getting to enjoy them every day.

Nice display. I added a black curtain to my room to keep the sunlight out the majority of the time as it usually stays closed.

I recently framed the first 3 T206 cards i ever got (circa 1993). Acid free matting, UV museum glass. the frame job cost more than the value of the cards, but to me, they're priceless. it's in our guest room, which has no windows.

How do you get the cards to stay in place ? Surely you didn't glue them. When I've thought about framing any raw cards, I've always wondered how to get them to stay in place.

I'd have to ask my framer, I believe it's a type of adhesive gum or paste that does not harm the item, used a lot in framing documents that you want to appear to "float". Must be done by a professional framer.

Nice display you have. Here's my Pennzoni 25 graded card display holding exactly 100 cards in tobacco toploaders. I'm still searching for the perfect way to display the cards once I finish my version of the set. Something mobile, something where I can easily view the backs. No sleeves for me.

I have a couple of pieces to add to the mix that are pretty unique. I bought the 2 sheets wrapped like architect plans back in 1984. I had the framed shortly thereafter. Apparently a kid (just a guess) collected this group of cards from the early series. They then took them and seperated them by league, team, portrait and finally action type pose. They then had the cards sewn on the green sheets. Just a few missing that should be included. That information straight from a great resource at a similarly named website !!

I am a big believer in the T206s and T205s should be kept by team like Heitman listed them in The Monster! They just look great together!

Nice display, I would have swapped Birmingham with Dunn positions so it looks as if he was pitching to Pattee and Dunn was receiving from Murphy.

Thanks for the suggestion on the Birmingham and Dunn, I will give that a try. I set it up so the Murphy and and Birmingham would be complimentary mirror images, but the implied interaction horizontally may be more interesting.

It has been two years since I posted my framed T206s. I have made quite a few revisions and wanted to show you the finished product. The frame is a circa 1910 Tiger Oak piece and has a fine patina. I cut the green suede mat myself. Enjoy!

I have about 190+ cards that are in shoe boxes not being displayed right now. The display cases that can hold about 55 cards is well over $100. To me that's a lot but not sure if in reality it isn't.

I would like to get a frame for a couple cards just to have in the office as well. Any recommendations ?

Josh, the best place to find a frame is in an antique shop or on eBay. A true period piece is much higher quality wood than what is available in a modern frame shop, has better patina and character and is often quite a bit cheaper. I found this particular frame on eBay.

I am framing quite a few pieces so I invested about $150 in a decent mat/glass cutter. Mat cutting is a skill that can be learned fairly quickly.

The glass, contrary to what I would have thought, is critical. I use only Tru Vue Museum glass which has amazing clarity, is non-glare and blocks 99 percent of the UV light which enables me to display the pieces. It is not cheap but worth every penny.

The middle course, which I have done with success in the past, is to find an old frame and take it to the framer to add the mat and glass.

How are your cards held in place? Are those SGC holders that they are in or are they raw and somehow attached to the black backing?

Tom, most are in SGC holders with black paper behind the holder to give a solid black background with the whole then taped to the back of the matting. A few are raw against enough acid free black paper to hold it snug in a Card Saver which is then taped to the back of the matting.

Would stamp hinges be an acceptable method to mount raw cards? I'm getting ready to frame/mount a Colgan's Columbus team set and stamp hinges seem like a good idea that won't damage the cards.

I would mount the cards in a case or sleeve. Also be careful with who does your mounting. I was just reframing a presidential signature piece and realized that the original framer f***ed it all up with the matting they used.

I have a couple N29 album pages framed and hanging in a corner where they do not receive direct sunlight, they don't seem to be fading at all. I may need to double-mat them, one to hold the page in place as a frame around the outside.

I have not framed tobacco packs, but can tell you how I would. Start with black foam board with a black core. Cut out a rectangular piece so that the pack will fit snugly with most of the pack protruding from the foam board. Place a mat over the foam board, leaving a 1/2 or so of the foam board showing, if a mat is desired. Then use a shadowbox of the appropriate depth and finish the job with UV/non reflective glass.

I have a basement full of rough cut walnut, cherry, and poplar. This weekend I'm going to be making chips milling wood for some frames. TruVue conservation glass is being ordered along with acid free matting. Can't wait to get some of my stuff framed especially my Columbus Solons OJ set (minus Spud Johnson of course since no one will sell me their's.)

Steven, if you are going to use TruVue I would highly recommend upgrading to the Museum Glass from the Conservation glass, it is more expensive but it makes that much of a difference.
