Recently I did a small transaction with an OBC member and as usual it went perfectly (though I haven't heard back I am sure it will be fine). What I was surprised to see was this card in with the payment. I was told the OBC guys gave this to me for Net54baseball's support of their great site and membership. Each time I have had the pleasure of dealing and interacting with OBC guys it has been pleasurable. I have wanted this card for a while but never got around to it. So I have to say thanks and this is appreciated very very much. A keeper and one of my new most favorite cards. I was so thrilled with it I showed it off at a local show yesterday. I love it. Thanks again to the great guys over on the OBC site!!!!! Ya'll are the most friendly group of collectors I know.

It's a post war card, but I believe it is a pre war image.

Saw it yesterday. Great card. I wonder how many takes it took to get that shot.

Yeah before the war runners slid in from the opposite direction, I believe.

I believe it is from 1941 spring training. Originially B&W , then colorized for the 53B set. I forget who the runner is. We discuss this every now and then on the postwar vint side. Others will remember the details better than I.
Great card and congrats Leon! Although in the last few years I have sold a lot of my cards that I love, ,I have never been able to rid myself of this. Last edited by Paul S; 02-14-2016 at 12:11 PM. |

I wonder how Pee Wee would look wearing a football helmet? Leon, what do you think?

I think it is from 1946. A close up image of Reese in the same leaping pose was also used in a 1950 Police Gazette cover.

I knew it was colorized and from spring training but did not think it dated back to '41. Thanks for the info. One of the magazines mentioned identifies the other player, I believe. Will have to dig em out.

That is mine and my dad's favorite card of all time. Simply stunning and gorgeous. I was so glad I got him a signed one a few years ago.

Thanks for sharing that ad (and the other info too, to the other guys). I love ancillary items.
