Wish there wasn't such a gap between PSA and SGC values on the 15s....love the 8s and perhaps they will jump...amazing quality in the high grades....and I'd bet in many of these cases (if not in others) PSA might cross....

If they were my cards, I would never even consider an attempt to cross them.

Though I am a 100% supporter of SGC, my offered opinion isn't primarily about that.

What it is about, is the recognition that politics plays a far larger role in the crossover grade, then the actual merits of the card in question.

IMO, You would have to be a "frequent flier" of the service in question, to expect crossover grades based on merit.

That is how this business rolls, and expecting different, is a display of idealistic innocence that is not based in reality.

Default Crossover

You are probably correct, Brian. I like SGC, too. However, if I were really eager to sell and make a buck, I'd have submitted these already. It IS absurd that one grading company commands more respect/$$$ especially when cards are pretty much flawless like these are. I'm still on the fence...I'll sell these for the right price but am just as happy to keep them.

The only reason I think that SGC 8s may cross is that it is hard, even for PSA, to justify a 7 if the corners are all extra sharp and centering is great. They have to have SOMETHING to hang grade on....

Doug, I wonder if you care to email or PM me a full scan of the '8' you think might be closest to perfect--almost a "9." I know you have them priced differently due to scarcity but apart from that which one is really in best condition? Thanks.

To expand on that point, we would be naïve to believe that the various services do not know which submissions are for cards that are earmarked for registry sets, and which are for fast turnover.

That being said, I believe that (all other factors being equal) a collector usually has the better shot to successfully cross a given card, provided that the service knows that they are building a registry set on that site.

Yes indeed, they can be in some cases, different markets.

My entire point however, is that unless You are a major submitter, I view it as risky to assume that this price range of cards will routinely cross successfully, especially if they are intended for resale.

Default Definitely not in it for the investment!

Yes, and I'm far from a routine submitter! Small time, for sure, and basically just having fun collecting a few (about 200) Cracker Jacks. We'll see if there's any interest here or on eBay (so far, there've been a couple dealers, I suspect, trying to low ball me an make their own money) and then I'll probably just be content to keep them with my other CJs.

Greg, from an purest point of view, I agree and certainly understand Your assessment.

However, none of the grading companies have to justify to anyone, why they elected to grade a card harshly.

Granted, the owner may choose to resubmit, but it is what it is, until a better assessment occurs.

Honestly, grading of any card is so subjective, that sometimes I wonder if one out of three graders might see a tiny phantom hairline flaw under magnification, on a card that otherwise appears flawless. Thus, it comes back with a grade that is less than expected.

I choose not to discuss the associated political issues between the various services, other than it seems more common with crossovers, that there are more disagreements than agreements with regard to the assigned grades.

That sounds like a plan Doug. Playing percentages, that is likely the smartest call.
