Weren't Speaker's last words something along the lines of "Don't you know who I am?" Someone sure didn't forget about him.

This was in the latest Goodwin Auctions, and there was some discussion about it on the Goodwin pickup thread, though I do not believe the buyer identified himself. Sadly, it wasn't me...

The guy who snagged this is a member of an autograph forum I'm on (as well as one of its previous owners), his collection is INCREDIBLE and most of the cards he has are along the quality of this one...

I'm the one who bought the Speaker. I paid more than I originally planned to spend, but it's a pretty special card. It is a nice companion to my signed Speaker 33 Goudey.

Do you have a link to your collection? I'd love to see signed cards of major HOFers from that era.

I'm not a big autograph guy, but that's a great collection. Many of those signatures represent some of the most important (and even infamous in some cases) figures in the history of the game. Thanks for sharing.

May I ask how long you've been working on the collection? I noticed the first pictures were posted in 2008, and there are a lot from March 2010. How many did you get in person? I agree with Jeff -- I love the Big Hurt NNOF. ![]() Cheers, Steve |

This one will be coming to Goodwin next, I believe. It comes from the same collection as the Speaker. If the price of the Speaker is any indicator.... yipes!!

I think the key to the Speaker is the auto grade 10..This is not the only signed T206 Speaker but it is the only 10 (currently graded)....You might want to get the auto graded on the Cobb or wait a few months when PSA starts putting both the Signature grade and card grade on the same flip.

The autograph grade didn't factor into my decision to bid as high as I did. I can tell a strong autograph from a weak one and don't let an arbitrary number influence my feelings. With that said, the Cobb t206 that was shown earlier is not a very strong signature and Cobb autographs on T206s are not as scarce as Speaker. I will be bidding on the Cobb, but I don't expect to win it. I will hold out and pay more for a nicer one. My guess is at least 15 signed Cobb t206s exist. I've never seen another Speaker. That isn't to say another one doesn't exist, but they are certainly rare.

Thanks for the kind words. I started collecting signed rookies around 2007. I got Sandy Koufax to sign one through the mail and I was hooked. I bought what I could afford until I graduated law school and passed the bar exam in 2009. Fortunately, my criminal defense practice has been very good, and I've been able to buy a lot of very nice cards. My 33 Goudeys are my favorite. Jason |

I often wonder what people do for their money or how they got it when they have epic items or show insane recent purchases, but that is a fairly private question for most so it often remains a mystery. I know there are a few people who have enviable collections who are either famous or are at least public enough to find out information on them such as google. I often imagine what kind of impact a guy like Gates or Allen could have on any hobby they chose if they were interested.
I was recently reading some of the PSA bios and couldn't help but wonder…doctor, lawyers, successful investors, entrepreneurs, internet millionaires, etc.? I do OK, but couldn't even fathom spending so much on the hobby unless I had much, much more in reserve to feel comfortable doing so. Most I have ever dropped on a single collectible item was around $500. When those Brooklyn Dodger UD Master sets came out, I bid on several on ebay, actually scaring myself into thinking I might actually win one a few times. Paying for it had I won was a non-issue, but I think buyers remorse would have kicked in immediately had I won one. Call me small time! ![]() Good for you and awesome collection. The '33 Goudey Ruth #181 is one of my favorite cards of all time and to see a couple nice signed ones together is that much more impressive!! Quote:

Awesome site. Glad you had the Spohrer already; just pointed a fellow Net54er to one from Dean's Cards that was listed as a regular card. Dean's still has a Sam Byrd if someone else needs one.
