A friend sent me these pictures. He found the ball while cleaning an attic. I'm not experienced when it comes to baseballs. You guys seem to be pretty good at it. It doesn't look like a stamped ball. I hope the images are good enough.
Is it a real MLB ball? What signatures are identifiable, are they real? What approximate year is it from. Value, if any. All opinions are welcome. Thanks ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Probably the 1976 New York Yankees as it has Willie Randolph, Mickey Rivers, Grant Jackson, Doyle Alexander, Fred Stanley, Chris Chambliss Dock Ellis, Dick Tidrow, Lou Piniella, Jim Mason and Oscar Gamble who were all a part of that team. Elston Howard and Sandy Alomar were probably coaches

Yes, it's a real OAL baseball. It was signed by a mid-seventies Yankee team. I see Thurman Munson, Doyle Alexander, Catfish Hunter, Bob Lemon, Mickey Rivers, Willie Randolph, Sparky Lyle, Dock Ellis, Lou Pinella, Chris Chambliss, Yogi Berra (clubhouse), Dick Tidrow, Fred Stanley, Elston Howard, Oscar Gamble, Jim Mason, for a start. Mason only played for the Yanks from '74 to '76. So that narrows it down.
The ball is not in the best of shape, but it does have Munson. If it's the 1976 team--a pennant winner--it's worth about $400-$750. Last edited by David Atkatz; 10-22-2015 at 12:48 PM. |

Have seen quite a few Yankees team balls from this era and they often contain clubhouse signatures...in this particular case it is the entire ball. Some red flags are slowly drawn signatures, multicolor ink(certainly not always the case), more consistent spacing of the signatures(again not always the case). If you break each and every signature down you will see that they do not compare well to other authentic examples on similar time period Yankees team balls. If you just pull up photos of one or two authentic team balls and compare signatures with this ball side by side, it becomes very evident that they are clubhouse signed.

If you look at the Sandy Alomar, Dock Ellis, Lou Piniella & Thurman Munson signatures here vs the ball in question you will see how different.

I agree with David. It does not look clubhouse to me at all.

So you are saying that the Dock Ellis, Lou Piniella, Sandy Alomar, Elston Howard, Oscar Gamble, Jim Mason, Thurman Munson, Bob Lemon, Dick Tidrow, etc, etc are authentic signatures? Here is more proof - look at the Jim Mason, Oscar Gamble, Dick Tidrow, Elston Howard sigs...
