When I read this story my heart dropped and I couldn't shake it, as any person, ballplayer, parent or otherwise couldn't. I can't imagine much worse of a situation with respect to baseball. So when I was contacted recently by Aaron McMullin, Finance Manager - Wichita Wingnuts, a professional independant baseball team in Wichita, KS, there was no way I could say "no" to wanting to help. Without further introduction here is a write up from Aaron -
"The Wichita Wingnuts is a professional independent baseball team in Wichita, Kansas. We play at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, where the National Baseball Congress World Series has been held every summer for 81 years. This year during the tournament, tragedy struck when 9-year-old Kaiser Carlile, a bat boy for the Liberal Beejays, was struck by a bat near the on-deck circle. Kaiser later passed away from his injuries. In conjunction with the NBC, the Wingnuts organized an auction to help raise money to build a memorial for Kaiser here at Lawrence-Dumont. One of the marquee items of the auction was a fish tank provided by Pete Rose. Mr. Rose made an appearance at a Wingnuts game a couple of weeks prior to the accident and decided to donate his personal fish tank to the Kaiser auction after he heard what happened. The tank is modeled after Riverfront Stadium and was custom-built for Mr. Rose on the Animal Planet show “Tanked.” (Here is a link to the reveal of the fish tank: http://www.animalplanet.com/tv-shows...nt-themed-tank Mr. Rose valued the fish tank at $25,000 and the minimum bid was set at $15,000. With no bids coming in, the tank went unsold. We raised nearly $23,000 on other items and donations, and the fish tank is all we have left to sell to build the memorial for Kaiser. If you have any interest in the fish tank, or know someone who might, please have them contact myself or Brian Turner at the Wingnuts office at 316-264-6887. Please note there will be additional shipping fees associated with the tank since it weighs nearly 1,300 pounds empty. Thank you for your time and any help is greatly appreciated. Aaron McMullin Finance Manager Wichita Wingnuts 300 S. Sycamore Wichita, KS 67213" .
